Poteet pulled after 51 pitches. Dillon Peters after 65. Innings limits instead of pitch limits is mind bogglingly stupid. And the level of caution we take with pitchers combined with the number of them who still get hurt you would think make the marlins change their ways. but no.

I have no issue with Poteet doing 5 innings regardless of pitch count. It's start #1 plus it's a good way to keep arms fresh for the entire season.

Dalton Wheat homered his first AB, so he's clearly now the greatest prospect of all time.

Dillon Peters is in my eyes the clear top prospect left in the system. Easily most likely to have a legitimate major league career.

Sucks Nicolino is now on the verge of becoming a career AAAA player. Still just 25 but I thought there was room for him to be a legitimate #3 if all worked out. His stuff just is far too hittable at every level.

I also stand by an old statement that Tomas Telis has nothing left to prove in AAA and is pretty much wasting years on his career now in the minors. Probably should get an opportunity to be at least a platoon guy somewhere in the majors elsewhere but major league team's don't value him high enough for the Marlins to look to trade him. Pretty bad spot to be in.

Man this season really needs to be Brian Anderson's breakout year. He's one of the rare guys who actually did well in Jupiter but struggled on the way up to Jax.

Also gotta hope Dalton Wheat becomes one of those guys. Guy brought a good deal of hype from the Independent League, never know for sure how that translates. At 23 years old in GBoro he needs to do well to be taken seriously as a prospect.

Think it has to do more with innings than pitches. U dont want guys throwing 8 or 9 innings this early especially us-we have enough trouble keeping arms healthy

We've also been using this strategy for bringing up our pitchers for years now so maybe there is a correlation? I obviously dont have data like the team does but we are super cautious with guys and theyve been getting hurt anyways. And im not saying pitch the guy 110 pitches on the first game, obviously it is early in the year and ultimately it isnt a big deal, but 55 pitches and cruising through 5 innings is nothing and there was 0 struggling. what if he had reached 55 pitches in the 3rd inning? Would they have taken him out after 3? I just think pitches limit is much more of the thing to watch then innings limit. To me it doesnt make much sense to look at innings more than total pitches. I understand the importance of also looking at innings a little bit, but it should not be more important than pitches.

Seems like it but who knows? We have moved guys from Closer to Starter to Middle Relief all in 1 year. I think its a combo of they are just taking it easy with some of the injured arms they have and trying him out in the pen just incase

We havent had the best luck with keeping arms in the minors healthy at all so I don't really mind them not throwing guys 7 innings or past injured guys in pen until ready

In addition to the signing of former Major League pitcher RHP Vance Worley last week, the Marlins also signed to a minor-league contract LHP Cesilio Pimentel. He spent last season playing full-season A Ball for the Pirates organization. There, he was 2-3 with a 2.65 ERA. In 51 innings, he gave up 38 hits, walked 15 and struck out 48.
