Something to keep in mind with his lack of power in GCL is they play in the same stadium as Jupiter does. Hard to have power there as an 18yo.

Just needs to start walking and I'll be supes excited

A fat 1B that walks and hits for power is the dream, man.

Bour is like a poor man's version of the dream.

Didn't even notice that Luis Castillo was a reliever mostly in GBoro before becoming a full time starter in Jupiter. He's only allowed 1 ER his last 15 IP. Also hasn't walked a batter during this time. Seems like he's making massive improvements as a starter. Only 22 years old too so if he starts next season in Jax he's pretty close to a solid prospect path. I might have to find out more information on Castillo because he's looking like a legitimate pitching prospect soon. Amazing McGehee ended up netting us two solid minor leaguers.

I also didn't see it mentioned but it was really good to see the Marlins send Garcia to Jax in August instead of waiting until next season. He needed to go through some growing pains with the Suns. 5 of his 7 starts he's allowed 2 ER or less over 5+ IP. The strikeout totals also look good. I was a little surprised when most scouting sites put Jarlin Garcia among our top prospects at the start of this year given what he did in GBoro, but I've gotta say he's held up his end of the bargain so far.

Should also mention Pineyro again since he's doing amazing in a hitter friendly league. Take out his first start with the Zephyrs and he's gone 33 IP with a 1.36 ERA. If he keeps this up the rest of the season he'll be due a few starts by June of next season. Given that Haren has an ERA near 6 with the Cubs (and a decline was expected by all of us), getting Pineyro for him at this point was important for the long term future of the team.

Jeff Brigham has also been really awesome with Jupiter. After a bad first start, he's gone at least 5 innings and allowed 2 ER or less in all his starts (has three shutout outings). The amount he got hit around in the past was a concern, but he's adapted incredibly well with the Marlins thus far.

I will take a million opportunities to trash the Marlins when they do bad stuff. And they have left the team in a relatively poor position right now. But turning Haren/McGehee/Dyson/Latos (who has an ERA near 7 with the Dodgers) into Telis/Ege/Brigham/Flores/Castillo/Pineyro has done a really nice first step in retooling the system. Telis not included, all these guys are really good arms who could very easily have futures with the major league squad (and in Flores/Pineyro's cases it will be soon). If there was a reason to keep the current front office at this point it is because they have done an excellent job pawning off bad pieces acquired this past offseason and turning them in good pieces. I'm really impressed, especially since most of these guys acquired had very little pedigree among scouts when we traded for them.

                - - - - - - - - - -

Didn't even mention Victor Araujo, who was also acquired in the Latos trade, who has posted a 0.89 ERA in 12 games as a reliever in Jupiter (also acquired in Latos trade).

K rate is down, but so is the walk rate.

Ya Castillo was a closer with the Giants too but like most of our guys,we gotta try him at SP 100 times just in case. He is built like Leo Nunez/Urena. So Closer build

The thing about Brigham is he needs innings. Don't forget he threw like 100 since TJ-surprised we didnt send him to the AFL.

Nola has shown absolutely no power in possibly one of the most hitter friendly parks in NOLA. There's absolutely nothing exceptional about him (even his somewhat ok hit tool in New Orleans isn't sustainable) and he's already 25 years old.

That said he'll be on our bench post negative WAR's by the start of next season.
