Last week's Marlins Minor league transactions:
- Two free-agent signings: P Ryan Hafner, who was released by the Pirates organization on June 14, was signed and assigned to the Muckdogs. Hafner had been with the Pirates since 2010, and this year in Bradenton (A+), he was 1-1 with a 9.55 ERA in 14 games. He walks A LOT of guys. Also signed: P Jose Velez, who was released by the Twins organization on June 21. He pitched in A and A+ for Minnesota, striking out 22 in 15.1 innings in Cedar Rapids. He's now on Greensboro's roster.
- Three releases: The first, P James Nygren, was a 33rd round pick in 2011. He had a 5.18 ERA in 17 games in New Orleans this year. P Jon Link was also let go. He was in his second stint with the Marlins and had a 4.50 ERA in six games in AAA this year. P Juan Guzman was also released. For those who read my write-up of the Batavia game I attended, Guzman made quite the impression for all the wrong reasons. He ended up pitching just three games there, giving up eight runs in 3.2 innings.

FYI - I don't believe the question of the Woods suspension was ever solved but here's this:
First baseman K.J. Woods is serving a 10-game suspension for a violation of team rules. He missed the nine-game road trip and the 10th game will be July 4.Originally posted by Madman81Most of the people in the world being dumb is not a requirement for you to be among their ranks.

Kendry Flores now with a 1.86 ERA in AAA after a 2.06 ERA in AA to start the year. Regardless of whether he makes it or not in the majors I'd say he was well worth one McGehee and the kind of reward we all talk about when we talk about selling high on players.
