I think Jose Fernandez is back. Just a hunch.
I want Stone Garrett to be good just because I want a Stone Garrett in the majors. The world deserves that.
Didn't realize until now that Avery Romero isn't even breaking a .600 OPS in Jupiter, ouch.

In addition to signing 1B Kila Ka'aihue (who was released by Washington May 24) last week, the Marlins also released longtime organizational P Frankie Reed, 2B Iramis Olivencia, and P Salvador Sanchez. Reed had been in the Marlins system since 2011, and had compiled a 2.81 ERA over that span. This year, he was 1-0 with a 4.43 ERA in AA Jacksonville over 20.1 innings. He had given up 21 hits, walked 10 and struck out 12. Olivencia was an 8th round pick in 2013. He hadn't played yet this year and split 2014 between GCL and Batavia, hitting .198 with nine walks and 27 K's in 96 ABs over those two leagues. Sanchez pitched 13 games for New Orleans this year, compiling a 3.38 ERA in those contests. 16 IP, 20 H, 7 BB, 15 K was his line.

Looked up Gabriel Castellanos' career after seeing his start in that perfect game. He's been in the system since 2011 but hasn't gone over Batavia yet. I'm not indicating that his pitching has even warranted a chance in Greensboro, but that's got to be really demoralizing to be stuck in levels far below even A ball for so long, and it happens to a lot of guys.
Noticed Brett Lilek (2nd round pick this year) pitch a perfect inning in that perfect game. First, it's crazy the draft happened just the start of this month and he's already pitching for us. Second, that is a really nice first outing to have regardless of level. Interested to see what he does since reports were that he was consistent at Arizona State with a smooth delivery and some good off speed stuff.
Chris Sadberry now with an ERA just under 3.50 in Jupiter. He gives up a lot of hits, he walks far too many while not striking enough out, and reports I've read say his stuff is just bleh, but his ERA was good in Gboro and is decent in Jupiter this year. Given that he was a four year college pitcher it probably wouldn't hurt to even throw him in Jax if he still has this ERA in August and let him sink or swim. I'm not calling him a good pitching prospect but he's getting by for the time being.
Seeing that home run by Felix Munoz made me remember to look up his season. Like many guys, he didn't take the call up to Jupiter well. OPS at .634. While Greensboro stats don't signal a budding star, there was a little tiny shine of hope that he could repeat in Jupiter. That hope is dead.
Brian Anderson seemed like he could be a breakout draft pick for us last year. Him and Romero were the two guys I really hoped and expected to put up good seasons and they've both just floundered. Just about every hitting prospect we have has floundered in the minors this season.
Good start by Adam Conley. The 2.61 ERA in New Orleans should signal that he has little left to prove in the minors, especially now that he is 25 years old, but there's really no spot currently to give him a try at a start. It's probably best to keep him pitching with the Zephyrs for the time being, but after some guys get traded at the deadline I wouldn't mind seeing Adam Conley up in the majors permanently as a bullpen, long relief role. He's always been a promising starter candidate who just suffered a signficant setback in 2014 with the injury bug. He's probably the most easily forgotten pitching prospect in our system who could secretly turn out to be decently good. I wish his control was better at times but he's far from the perfect prospect.
I just wish we could just morph all of our #4/5 potential starting pitching prospects (Urena/Nicolino/Flores/Conley/Williams/etc...) and turn them into one solid major league #3 starter. That would be really really huge going into next year and the future. Hopefully one of all these guys we have breaks the expectations and becomes Anibal Sanchez 2.0.

Also Bryan Morris sighting. Here's to him magically becoming 2014 Bryan Morris again.
