  • Greensboro: Jorgan Cavanerio, RHP

Moved into the #30 spot in MLBPipeline rankings due to Bour passing eligibility mark for service time

    Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Slider: 40 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 50 | Overall: 45

When looking at a prospect like Cavanerio, it's important not to examine who he is now, but rather who he might become. The Marlins signed the right-hander, who won't turn 20 until August, precisely because of that projectability.

Currently, Cavanerio's fastball, thrown from a high three-quarter slot, sits in the 89-93 mph range with decent arm side run. Still physically maturing, there's a chance he'll pitch with an above-average fastball when he adds strength to his lean frame. His breaking ball, a slider, is a work in progress, something that will improve as he learns to repeat his delivery consistently. He has a very good feel for his changeup and it flashes above-average. He goes right after hitters and generally fills up the strike zone.

Cavanerio began the 2015 season in Extended Spring Training, with the Marlins making sure not to rush him. His feel for pitching and potential could help him start to move faster soon.
