As a senior, Porter tied for the team lead with 15 games started. 92.2 IP, 85 H, 22 BB, 72 K, with a 3.01 ERA. Also hit 14 batters and led the team with nine wild pitches.

Miami Marlins draft pick Kyle Porter is a classic left-handed starter. His fastball won't blow anyone away, normally coming in at 86-89 (occasionally hitting 91), but it has a lot of run to it, away from right-handed hitters.

When Porter is on, he can spot his fastball on both sides of the plate and use it to get ahead of hitters early. The main attraction here is his off-speed and breaking stuff. Porter will spin his curve between 69 and 72 mph, and while it's not a quick-breaking pitch, it will get most hitters out in front. Porter is most effective when he can spin the curve for strikes, but it's also a swing-and-miss strikeout pitch with a lot of downward, 12-6 movement, but he can get some lateral motion at times.

Porter's 74-77 mph change up has at times come out flat, and when it just sits and spins, it can get hit very hard, but if his fastball is working, the change can make Pac-12 hitters look very foolish. What makes this pitch even more effective is that he can throw it consistently for strikes, particularly down in the zone.
