Twine was a multi-sport star in high school. As a quarterback, he drew a scholarship offer from Baylor and once ran for 534 yards in a game. On the track, he won a gold medal in long jump and two relays in his school's division at the 2014 Texas state championships. But he chose to play baseball, and the Marlins drafted him in the second round.
As might be expected of someone with his resume, Twine oozes athleticism. The challenge will be to turn his raw tools into production. There's a fair amount of swing-and-miss in his game now, and he'll have to adjust to facing premium pitchers. He's solidly built and produces good bat speed, giving him the chance to hit for some power in time. He's also a work in progress defensively, but he'll get a chance to show he can stay in the infield.
Twine might be a bit of a project, one whom Miami will have to be patient with, but the payoff could be tremendous.
