Generally, guys with Nicolino's strikeout rate in High A ball start getting pounded when they move up.

    We'll see.

Normally I'd agree, but I think it's more of abnormality the low strikeout number right now. He's had a K/9 over 9 in over 200 minor league innings before this season. He's never had a season where his ERA was over 2.50 at any stop so far. AA is going to be a very interesting test for him, but I'm not sure why we shouldn't expect him to pitch well there and earn a call up to the majors by September 2014 at the latest.

Anybody know if Nicolino's outs are coming mostly from ground outs or fly outs this season? I remember him being somewhat of a fly ball pitcher in the past, but I'd love to hear if the drop in strikeouts this season might be because he's imposing more ground balls.

Good to see the control and GB rate ok for Nicolino. But yea I'm quite down on the kid. K' rate is no good. k/9 below 6 in A ball is dissapointing. Looks like they took the wrong P in the Blue jays trade. It looked like he had turned it around in May but nada.

he's not striking people out, he's getting less ground balls, and he's getting hit a lot harder

            Oh damn.

It's really impressive he's not giving up any runs given that line drive rate.

Marisnick's home run was a walk off. DeScalfini with his worst start of the season by far.

Marlins-related minor league transactions, June 20-26 (c/o Baseball America):

-RHP Jon Link inked a minor-league deal with the Tigers. You may remember him from such such stops as 2012 in AA and AA with the Marlins.

-The Marlins signed C Brandon Brown, a NDFA from Troy. He's on the GCL Marlins roster. They also signed SS Rony Peralta, who was previously released by the organization prior to the start of the season.
-In something of a surprise, P Mike Ojala was released. He was a 25th round pick in 2010, but struggled as of late, compiling a 6.12 ERA in 16 games in AA this year.

Is Urena still someone worth getting excited about? Every time I've seen his name on prospect lists, the write-up seems to be that he has great stuff. He's having a solid year in A ball this year. A promotion to AA is probably coming sooner rather than later.
