Speaking of which - heard some great radio here today.

Radio host got a call about that Turner trade. Caller said the Marlins could've had a great third base prospect from the Tigers but wanted Turner instead. Then the host said didn't they get some guy named Cox from the Red anyway. The caller said never heard of such a guy. Then they talked about Turner's 5 ERA in the minors. Caller said passing on Tigers third base prospect meant fish would keep Hanley so we were all extra blindsided by that.


They went to break and played Papa Roach when they came back.
Host said what ever happened to great rock?

Marlins-related minor league transactions, May 9-16:

-Former Marlin C Ronny Paulino signed a minor-league deal with the Orioles
-SS Gil Velazquez was released by the Yanks, and subsequently picked back up by the Marlins

-As noted elsewhere, P David Aardsma was released from AAA New Orleans
-The Marlins signed P Adam Reifer and 2B Reid Redman. Reifer, late of the Cardinals, played in AAA Memphis from '10-'12. He had a 4.90 ERA in 58 games last year, pitching 64.1 IP, walking 20 and striking out 44. Redman hit .265 in 226 ABs for the Rays' Appy League affiliate in 2012. 2 HR, 26 RBI, 6 SB.

Note on Conley. Eight of his ten starts he's allowed two ER or less. He has two starts where he allowed 5 and 6 ER that really hurts his ERA (plus he must be on an 80 pitch pitch count based on his outings).

Start watching Anthony Descalfini. He has an ERA under 1.20 in nine starts, and he is extremely efficient (doesn't throw a lot of pitches, tons of strikes). While he's 23 pitching in high A ball, he appears like a home run in the Toronto trade that nobody talks about.

Austin Barnes also continues to hit. Can't wait to see what he does in Jacksonville next season.

Solorzano is somewhat disappointing. While he wasn't a huge prospect, he was an interesting guy to look out for, and has put up a dud so far. Still a lot of season to go though...
