--OF Austin Kearns has agreed to terms on a minor league contract with the Marlins, and the deal includes an invitation to spring training, the Miami Herald reported. Kearns, 33, hit .245 with four home runs for the Marlins last season, when he struggled in the second half of the season because of leg injuries. He hit .200 with two homers for Cleveland in 2011.
Matt Downs is close to signing a minor league deal. He's got some power and can play multiple positions. I suppose he could end up as the Opening Day 1st baseman if Lomo is still out.

Downs has a really good chance to make the Opening Day Roster as the Utility Guy however the more logical(Marlins Logic)thing if LoMo is hurt to start the year is Austin Kearns makes the team and plays 1B with Dobbs.
I read somewhere that if Kearns is in the minors past June 1 that he gets a 100K bonus-no chance in hell we pay that LOL
I could however see us trying to deal Dobbs for a minor leaguer before Opening Day and have Downs just take his place on the roster but since Downs is on a minor league deal we can take our time with that.
