Yesterday BA’s mock draft had him going 20th overall to the Yankees. Wonder if there are signability issues and this is where we punt to save some dollars?

          From cbs:

A second baseman from Boston College, Morissette lacks loud tools, but he could hit enough to reach the majors. He hit .321/.398/.497 with six home runs and a 17.3 percent strikeout rate as a junior. Morissette hits from the left side and is an average runner, with his raw power grading out as below average.

Sound like another pretty solid pick. The guys on MLB Network said it was a good pick here. Sounds like he was really good as a freshman and sophomore, but had a down year as a junior. It's another upside pick in that way where you hope he is the guy he was to start his college career. Del Castillo would have been solid here, and is similar to this guy in his college career (although maybe more extreme) but after going catcher last night I didn't think they'd go back to catcher again here. It sounds like Morissette is pretty good defensively and could play SS, 2B, or 3B. They almost definitely had to take a college guy here with both guys yesterday probably going over slot. They'll probably even have to continue that today. It's interesting that both Clemson football/baseball recruits are still on the board. I wonder if teams just don't think either will turn pro, even though Chandler supposedly was going to.

And from MLB where he was ranked 59:

The spring began with Boston College looking like it might have a trio of players with a very good chance of going on Day 1 of the 2021 Draft. Since the college season has gotten underway, only outfielder Sal Frelick has stepped up to be a sure-fire pick that early. Pitcher Mason Pelio has struggled on the mound and Morissette has scuffled in the box. He had put his name on the map with a strong freshman season in '19 and followed that up with a huge start to his '20 campaign, but hasn’t been able to follow that up.

A solid athlete whose parents both played college basketball, Morissette provides more physical upside than his undersized teammate Frelick. He should fill into his 6-foot frame and add more to what is already solid strength. That should help him add power, though just how much remains to be seen, with him looking more like the type who’ll hit a ton of doubles if he’s locked in. He’s more than willing to draw walks and has shown excellent contact skills in the past, but really struggled to impact the ball when teams stopped throwing him fastballs this spring. He’s not a burner, but he runs well enough and is smart and aggressive on the base paths.

Defensively, Morissette has shown he can play multiple positions well, manning second as a freshman and handling third base a year ago. With a good internal clock, soft hands and enough arm, he could even play shortstop, a spot he’d play if it weren’t for the presence of Brian Dempsey at BC. A team that thinks he can play short might be the one to take him, knowing he could slide over to second with the ceiling of developing into a Chase Utley type of player if he can rediscover his groove at the plate.

I read that he played with a broken thumb this season, which was the reason his performance dropped off. This pick could work out really well for the Marlins.

"Morissette dropped off a bit in 2021 with a hand injury during his junior season after putting himself on the map as a freshman and sophomore, but his potential has kept scouts interested. He joined teammate Sal Frelick, who was taken by the Brewers, among BC players drafted." From Baseball America’s Scouting report:

The following profile was written last January, prior to the injury-hampered season. 2021 MLB Draft Scouting Report: Cody Morissette — Prospects Live
