  • Jacksonville: Zack Cox, 3B

Can't imagine he stays at AA long.
    --------------------
To acquire him, the Cardinals sent out third baseman Zack Cox, a 2010 first-round draft pick whom the St. Louis Cardinals pushed to Triple-A Memphis this season. Cox originally signed a $3.2 million big-league contract out of the University of Arkansas, snaring a spot on St. Louis’ 40-man roster.

But other than the second half of last season when he owned a .500 slugging percentage in Double-A Springfield, Cox struggled in the high minors.

He was advanced to Triple-A Memphis out of spring training but was hitting just .254 with 30 RBIs. He has struck out 63 times in 299 at-bats, and drawn 12 walks.

The Cardinals did kick the tires in spring training on returning Cox to Springfield to open the season, with the player development wing, led by farm director John Vuch, having a discussion about possibly hiring a free agent to man third base in Memphis until Cox was ready.

But the organization was optimistic that Cox, as he proved last year in the Texas League, would overcome a slow start and then dominate the league. He was batting just .209 at the end of May, then hit .314 (40-for-127).

Beinfest was on 790 this morning. Said they felt he was fast tracked a bit in the Cardinals system and that they wanted to move him back to AA to help his development a bit more.

Cox is 2-4 with a triple, a run scored, and 3 RBI. I've seen enough...call him up.

Isn't that the concussion DL or is that MLB only?

Minor leagues do not have a 15-day disabled list. They only have a 7-day DL.
