But the reason the Suns have put together a three-week surge in which they’ve won 14 of their last 21 games, is that the pitching has been solid. In the team’s last six games, Suns pitchers have allowed a total of seven runs. In their last four outings, they’ve given up 1, 1, 0 and 0 runs for a team ERA of 0.50 during that span. The only loss of the four games came when Jose Alvarez threw a complete game against Mobile on Thursday but suffered the defeat in a 1-0 decision.

Alvarez is a nice little prospect. He has had a good year for Jacksonville. He doesn't strike out many (only 61 in 108 IP) but is only 23-years-old. He will be a free agent at the end of the year though.

The win guaranteed Jacksonville (27-21 in the second half, 60-58 overall) of retaining at least a share of first place in the Southern League South Division.

In the last four weeks, the Suns have hiked their season batting average 18 points and now sport a .233 mark as a team.

Jacksonville trimmed Montgomery's lead to one game in the Southern League's second-half South Division race. There are eight games remaining in the regular season.
