Playing for a team that is, at times, offensively challenged, Austin Nola wears plenty of hats for No. 1-ranked LSU.
His versatility and value to the Tigers was magnified this weekend in NCAA Regional play and Nola didn’t flinch.
The senior shortstop was voted the Most Outstanding Player of the regional after collecting four hits in 10 at-bats, scoring three runs and driving in four.
Nola was joined on the all-tournament team by pitchers Kevin Gausman and Aaron Nola and catcher Ty Ross.
Besides his offensive contributions, which included the first and last RBI Friday in a tough 4-1 win against UL-Monroe, and the first and last run scored Sunday in a 6-5 10-inning thriller vs. Oregon State, Nola was his steady, borderline spectacular self with the glove. He handled 17 chances in three games without an error and got to several balls most college shortstops wouldn’t.
