Conley is being awesome. Gotta move him and Fernandez up now.

Can't imagine he gets another start down there, right? It's time to promote him already, he's BORED.

He seemed like a guy from the beginning that was going to blow through the minors quickly and wow has that been proven so far. Well, he's done his part, now it's the FO turn to move him up to the next level.

Considering everything teenager Jose Fernandez went through trying to flee his native Cuba, playing baseball for a living is, by contrast, remarkably easy.
Despite four unsuccessful attempts to sail to Mexico on a boat, including one that landed him in prison and another in which his mother fell overboard and nearly drowned, Fernandez never gave up on his dream. In his mind, failing to realize his goal of pitching in the Major Leagues is not even an option.

The 19-year-old right-hander continued his journey to superstardom on Wednesday night, scattering three hits over seven shutout innings in the Class A Greensboro Grasshoppers' 2-1 loss to the Augusta GreenJackets.

"I'm going to get to the big leagues, that is not even a question," Fernandez said. "I know how hard I work and how much I love the sport. I enjoy every bit of it. I've been through some hard stuff, but this is my dream. This is why I came here, to play professional baseball.

"I think it is because I love baseball so much. I respect the game and I play for my team."

Despite Wednesday's loss, Greensboro still leads second-place Hagerstown by 4 1/2 games in the South Atlantic League North Division first-half race. Fernandez has been a huge part of the Grasshoppers' success, anchoring a pitching staff that has allowed the fewest hits in the SAL and ranks second with a 3.11 ERA.

Fernandez leads the circuit with a 1.34 ERA and 85 strikeouts. He has six wins, one behind Lexington's Mike Foltynewicz and Asheville teammates Ben Alsup and Daniel Winkler for the top spot.

The Marlins' No. 3 prospect worked around Shawn Payne's two-out single in the first inning and issued a two-out walk to Joseph Staley in the second. Fernandez then retired the next 11 batters before Jesus Galindo laced a one-out double in the sixth.

Galindo was the first GreenJacket to get past first base, but Fernandez struck out Kelby Thompson and Payne to keep the shutout intact.

In the seventh, Jose Flores singled with one out to put the potential tying run on base, but the 6-foot-3 right-hander got Jose Cuevas to ground into an inning-ending double play.

"I did a pretty good job," said Fernandez, who threw 97 pitches, three short of his limit. "I try to go out there and do a good job all the time and work hard for my team. Everything was working tonight and I had good command and good location.

"My off-speed stuff was amazing. My changeup and slider were there and my two-seamer had good velocity. It was between 94-98 mph and it was still at 97 in the last inning. I could throw it wherever I wanted to.

"I'm just trying to make good pitches, I'm not trying to strike them out. People strike themselves out."

Fernandez has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his 11 starts, yielding one run or fewer seven times, including each of his last four games. During that most recent stretch, he's struck out 30 batters while walking four.

"I'm waiting for it," Fernandez said of a possible promotion. "I'm ready to go to the next level. [The Marlins] are the ones that know what's best. They have been in the sport a long time, but hopefully, I'll do what I need to do.

"When people ask me this, I say I'm going to do whatever I can to get hitters out and help my team win. That is my goal."

Greg Nappo (0-3) pitched a scoreless eighth in relief of, but the GreenJackets rallied for two runs in the ninth and the win.

Payne reached on an infield hit and stole second before Flores drew a two-out walk. Brad Mincey came out of the bullpen, but pinch-hitter Ben Thomas delivered a walk-off double to center field.
I'm in love with this guy.

Two seamer at 98 MPH? That can't be right.
God would be expecting a first pitch breaking ball in the dirt because humans love to disappoint him.
