Brice has been nasty good in May.

And Keys is still killing. Batting .399 on the year with 25 BB compared to just 12 SO in 153 AB.

And Brice just made the BA Hot Sheet for this week.

He's not nearly as polished, but when it comes to raw stuff, Brice is just a tick or two behind fellow Greensboro Grasshopper Jose Fernandez. Fernandez sits 93-95 mph, touching 97, while Brice sits 92-94, touching 96. Fernandez has a better breaking ball, but Brice's curve is pretty good as well. Fernandez has better control, but Brice has shown signs that he's learning to repeat his delivery. While Fernandez dominated from the start this season, Brice, a 2010 ninth-round pick out of a North Carolina high school, spent much of his first month getting shelled. He's figured some things out since then. Brice gave up 11 runs and nine walks in his first two outings. In five May starts stretching 23 innings, he's allowed three runs and walked 10.

Marlins-related transactions last week, c/o Baseball America: The Diamondbacks rescued former Marlin farmhand P Gaby Hernandez from the Independent leagues, signing him to a contract. 2B Joe Thurston was let go from the Minnesota organization. P Brad Penny was signed by the Giants.

The Marlins released P Garett Parcell, who was 0-1 with a 7.62 ERA in 10 games with AA Jax this season. He had been in the system since 2007.

I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't make at least 6-7 starts for Jupiter. It's a pitching friendly league anyway, no reason not to give him the shot.

Orioles promoted Dylan Bundy to high A already. Fernandez hasn't been his level of dominant (30ip 5ha 0er 2bb 40k), but still.


Fernandez K rate is actually a little better than Bundy's.
