On Wednesday, the Marlins' low-Class A team honored Lucille Ball by becoming the Jamestown Lucy Desis for a night, FoxSportsFlorida.com reports.
Ball was the star of I Love Lucy, a television show that aired from 1951-60 and is considered one of the greatest shows of all-time. Ball's 100th birthday would have been Aug. 6 had she not passed in 1989 of heart problems. The Jamestown Jammers renamed themselves for a night and donned uniforms with the names "Lucy" and "Desi" on the front of the jersey, above two photos of Ball and husband Desi Arnaz, who also performed on I Love Lucy and was married to Ball for 20 years. (Photo from the Jamestown Jammers, courtesy FoxSportsFlorida.com.)
"This is a great way for the local baseball team to tie in with another local icon: Lucille Ball," Jammers GM Matt Drayer said. "It's a great cross promotion where we can celebrate Lucy's birthday around the American pastime of baseball."
On the back of the jersey, there was a logo depicting the 100th anniversary of Ball's birth as well as the player's uniform number. Caps had a red heart inserted behind the Jammers' team logo. The celebration will continue through Sunday, with Joan Rivers and Paula Poundstone performing. On Saturday, the city will try to set a world record for most people dressed as Ball's character on her show, Lucy Ricardo.

He's 22, and has struggled since his call up to AA, but his A+ numbers compare favorably to James and Hand in their A+ seasons, although bother were two years younger. Still, has he become one of our top 10 prospects?poop

For me he falls after Yelich, James, Dominguez, Rasmussen, Realmuto, Ozuna, Marinez, Fernandez (if signed), probably Barron (if signed), and then there's a wealth of guys to contend with like Jensen, Ceda, Rosario, Canha, Jobduan, Perio, Hope, Brice, Reyes, Smolinski, Varner, Hodges, Olmos, etc. But he definitely seems more valuable right now that guys like Varner, Hodges, Neal.Christian Yelich

Goldstein featured him in his Ten Pack that he does every Monday. Said he is a very real prospect who has shown significant improvement throughout the season. Also said he has a chance to be a plus defender to go along with a quick bat, good approach, and possible power.
Pretty cool.Christian Yelich

Given what we heard about him out of high school, I'm slightly dissapointed in the relative lack of power, given league and park and all of that, but he's also a 20 year old catcher putting up a .760 OPS with decent BB and K rates, so I can be patient for the power. At least he's not Skipworth, putting up power and nothing else.
And all of those things go doubly so if he's truly a + defender.Last edited by Bobbob1313; 08-08-2011, 05:39 PM.poop
