Senior Johnny Omahen has been a rock both in the lineup and on the mound for Cougar baseball this season. In March, he hit .327 with 15 RBI, including 12 hits in the team’s final 8 games of the month. When he’s not the team’s everyday shortstop, Omahen is pitching, where he allowed just 2 runs while striking out 15 batters in 12 innings of work for the month.

Cal State San Marcos senior Johnny Omahen, a shortstop and pitcher, was drafted by the Florida Marlins, making him the first player in school history selected in the major league baseball draft.

Omahen was picked in the 35th round with the 1,063rd overall selection. The 6-foot, 190-pound right-hander was drafted as a pitcher. He was 7-1 with a 3.00 ERA, striking out 48 and walking 22 in 54.0 innings this season.
