    from per-fect-game.org:

Connor Burke is a 2011 OF/3B with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Whittier, CA who attends LaSerna. Burke has an athletic build, solid actions in the outfield, good swing, hard contact, showed bat speed, comes off bat well, bat has good potential, runs well. He is also a good student.

Speaking of motivation, the Lancers have plenty after falling from first to third place in league over the final two regular- season games of last season.

Like Santa Fe, La Serna is also stacked with talent, starting with all-everything senior Connor Burke.

"Connor is a four-year varsity guy, and we expect a lot of big things out of him," Lancers co-coach Anthony Gonzales Jr. said. "You will see him in a lot of spots - the outfield, the infield and on the mound."

Burke batted .453 and was also the team's ace, posting a 6-4 record with a 3.59 ERA.
Gonzales shied from declaring Burke his ace this season, but boldly said he did not have an issue with pitching and has six solid hurlers who could fill any number of positions.

        Three locals hear name called
La Serna's Burke among draft picks

Three area athletes were selected Tuesday afternoon on day two of the three-day- long Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
La Serna High School senior Connor Burke had just returned from the annual Rotary Club of Whittier All-Star Luncheon when he saw his name flash across his home TV screen. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound infielder was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 19th round with the 583rd pick.

"I was getting pretty nervous. I wasn't sure when I was going to be picked," Burke said. "I was shocked. It was a dream come true."

Burke hit .458 in league this season with 22 hits, 11 runs, 16 RBIs, three homers, four doubles and six stolen bases and will play in today's 15th annual Rotary Club All-Star game at York Field at 6 p.m.

"Florida Marlins scout Robby Corsaro let me know I was going to get drafted.

I just wasn't sure when," Burke said.

"Connor is a great kid with a great head on his shoulders. We're behind him," La Serna co-coach Anthony Gonzales Jr. said. "He's been a tremendous asset to the program and he's had a great career."

Burke verbally committed to the University of Washington last year, but the 18-year-old Whittier resident said it's unlikely he'll be heading there.

"I really want to play in the minor leagues," Burke said.
