And his first name is difficult to pronounce, as well. Bonus points.

            He seems interesting.
            --------------------
He also tied the HR lead for D II during his freshman season. Also pretty athletic with some speed.

Used to be a switch hitter.

Oklahoma City University junior Ruben Sosa of Lawrence was taken in the 23rd round by the Houston Astros (700th pick overall). Western Oklahoma State Junior College sophomore outfielder Jhiomar Veras, who has committed to Lubbock Christian, was chosen in the 15th round by the Florida Marlins with the 463rd overall pick.

The 5-7 Sosa, who played centerfield for the Stars, is projected as a second baseman.

Named first-team all-Sooner Athletic Conference, he batted .389 with 15 doubles, five triples, five home runs, 42 RBIs and a .446 on-base percentage. Sosa, who played with Veras in junior college, led the 47-12 Stars with 78 runs and 44 steals in 49 tries. The 44 steals was tied for first in the NAIA ranks.

"He is the fastest player we've had in a few years," OCU coach Denney Crabaugh said of Sosa, who placed fourth in the 55 meters at New Englands as a senior at Lawrence High.

The vastly improved Veras, who wasn't even an MVC All-Star at Methuen High, is batting an eye-popping .471 (82 for 174) in 50 games this spring for Western Oklahoma. The 6-0, 195-pound slugger leads the 51-16 Pioneers with 23 homers to go with 66 runs and 84 RBIs.

Veras, the top vote-getter on the NJCAA All Region 2 team
, and the Pioneers will play for the junior college national title tomorrow.
