The Marlins have agreed to terms with right-hander Bryan Berglund, their second round pick (66th overall) out of Royal High School in Simi Valley, Calif. No word yet on the signing bonus, but Berglund departed for Miami late Friday, presumably to take a physical and begin his pro career in Jupiter.
The Gulf Coast Rookie League Marlins have only 13 games remaining after today and conclude their season on Aug. 31. That should give Berglund enough time for a couple of outings.
First round pick Chad James, a left-hander who the Marlins selected out Yukon, (Okla.) High School remains unsigned. He reportedly is looking for a $1.75 million signing bonus. The Marlins have until midnight Monday to reach an agreement with Berglund, who has committed to play at Oklahoma State.
