The Jacksonville Suns were crowned Southern League Champions for the second straight year Saturday night after a walk-off home run by catcher Chris Hatcher. Hatcher, who was drafted in the 5th round of the 2006 draft, was called up to the Marlins in late August but never got into a game.
Starter Jose Rosario had a great pitching duel with his counterpart, righty Craig Muschko, a 22nd rounder by the Cubs in 2007, but it ended up a battle of the bullpens. The Suns pen dazzled by throwing three scoreless innings. To lead off the bottom of the ninth Hatcher took a Luke Sommer offering deep to left field to clinch the championship for the Suns.
This is the third time since 2003 that the Marlins' Double-A Affiliate has won the Southern League title, the first being with Carolina in 03, then last year with the Suns and then again Saturday night.
