JACKSONVILLE, FL - Suns 3B Matt Dominguez and RHS Elih Villanueva have been named Florida Marlins Minor League Player & Pitcher of the Month for August 2010.
Dominguez hit .307 in 29 games for the Suns, scoring 16 runs on 31 hits, including four home runs. Dominguez collected 29 RBI while posting a .387 OBP and .515 SLG. The Marlins' first-round pick from 2007 finished the regular season leading the Southern League in games played (138).
Born in Chatsworth, CA, Dominguez attended Chatsworth High School (CA) before being selected by the Marlins in the 2007 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.
Villanueva claimed POM honors for the second straight month, finishing August with a 3-0 record and 1.55 ERA over five starts, including a complete-game shutout. He threw 29.0 innings during the month, allowing four earned runs on 14 hits, with six walks and 24 strikeouts, while holding opposing batters to a .143 average. The Marlins' 27th-round pick from the 2008 draft was the regular season ERA leader for the SL (2.26), while finishing second in wins (14) and first in complete games (4).
