Hitting a high fly ball over the wall in left to lead off the sixth inning, Chris Aguila made Zephyrs history Wednesday night at Zephyr Field, and also struck a key blow in a 5-1 victory against Omaha.

The homer for Aguila, who played with the Zephyrs for parts of the 2008 and 2010 seasons, all of last season and all of this season, was his 57th in a New Orleans uniform. He broke a tie for top spot in the franchise’s homer list with J.R. Phillips.

Fans warmly applauded Aguila, a 33-year-old outfielder who has been mainly a part-time player this season, as he circled the bases with his fourth homer this season, and he was warmly received by his teammates. The leadoff shot in the sixth inning against Omaha starter Chris Dwyer (1-2) put the Zephyrs in front 2-1.

“Obviously guys knew about it,” Aguila said. “It was a nice recetpion from my teammates. That’s what matters most. It’s your peers. We’ve got a good group of guys.”
