  • 7/15 Performances

Some of these players don't have threads in the prospect database and I don't feel like creating them, so I'll post this here. Also will post other notable performances up to Greensboro while I'm at it.

There were a few good performances worth noting yesterday, specifically from some of our recent draftees.

    GCL:
    Jheyson Manzueta
    4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K

I've got a second hand mini-report on this guy. Clean delivery except for an inconsistent release point which causes him to be a bit wild. But he's got a good arm (has room to add some strength) with a solid-above average fastball (sits 91-93), and has an above average-plus slider. That's it. He's 20 years old and needs to learn to pitch, but the stuff is there (proven by his 25 K and 8 H in 17.2 IP)

    Blake Brewer (he's alive?)
    1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K

    Jobduan Morales
    1 for 2, 2 BB, 1 SO

    Alfredo Lopez
    2 for 5, 1 SO

    Marquise Cooper
    2 for 5, 2 SO

There were other good performances from some Carribean guys, but don't feel like listing them.

    Jamestown:
    Rett Varner
    4.0, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 5:2 GB/FB

    Noah Perio
    2 for 4, 2B

Aaron Senne (been raking lately .915 OPS in July)
    3 for 4

    Marcell Ozuna:
    2 for 4, 1 SO

    Greensboro:
Robert Morey (went up against Tyler Matzek)
    3 IP, 3 H, 0 BB, 4 K, 5:1 GB/FB

It says a lot about what the organization thinks of Morey to start him in Greensboro. 21 years old and could move quickly.

    Kyle Skipworth
    1 for 5, HR, 1 SO

    Kyle Jensen
    2 for 5, 2B, 3 SO

Sequoyah Stonecipher (promoted back up to Greensboro after putting up a .933 OPS in the NYPL)
    2 for 5, 2B

Jose Torres (highly disappointing so fur, but still 19 and showing improved plate discipline)
    2 for 3, BB

    ------------

I think the FO did a good job of finding some really solid college starting arms in this years draft, that might close the gap between now and the arrival of many of our prep arms in the lower minors. Morey and Varner have performed well, and now Rasmussen has signed -- along with Koehler and I guess Evans, it's a pretty good group.
