Florida Marlins: Maybin headed back to South Florida — for shoulder exam
    by: Juan C. Rodriguez July 4th, 2010 | 8:57 PM
Cameron Maybin is headed to South Florida to have his left shoulder examined. He didn’t hurt it on one play, but the discomfort has been persistent for most of the season. In November, Maybin underwent surgery to repair a partially torn labrum. He was ready for full baseball activity by the start of spring training and it didn’t appear to be giving him trouble while he was with the Marlins.

Maybin last played for Triple-A New Orleans on Thursday. Give him credit for not sulking after his demotion. In eight games, he was 10 for 28 (.357) with five walks, four strikeouts and a .486 on-base percentage.

Meanwhile, the guy who essentially replaced Maybin in the Marlins’ outfield did not start Sunday’s series finale in Atlanta. It was only the second time in 23 games since Mike Stanton’s promotion that he was not in the lineup. Since his 7-for-19 start (.368), Stanton is 10 for 63 (.159) with two homers, three walks and 28 strikeouts. For the season (82 at-bats), Stanton is batting .207 with a measly .575 on-base plus slugging percentage and 13 RBI.

The Marlins demoted Maybin last season at about the same point (84 at-bats). He was hitting .202 with a .590 OPS, eight walks and 31 strikeouts. Should the Marlins let Stanton keep trying to figure it out in the majors, or is it time to send him down to Triple-A?

Dunno if Cody is out of the woods yet. Like someone said, Boni did good today so they might be all up on his dick to play center.

Just checked the AAA box scores for today game and saw that Morrison is playing LF and Carroll CF. So I guess we can trade Cody after all.

          CAMERON MAYBIN SHOULDER ACHING
Cameron Maybin has been bothered again by his left shoulder. He had it examined today in South Florida and doctors found no ligament damage, just swelling.

He’ll rest one more week then return to action at Class AAA New Orleans. Maybin had surgery last November to repair a partially torn labrum.

              Maybin gets second opinion
After being examined by Marlins physicians in South Florida recently, Cameron Maybin was recommended to get a second opinion.

The 23-year-old center fielder paid a visit to Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., who examined his shoulder. The encouraging news is Maybin doesn't have any significant damage to his left shoulder.

Maybin has been diagnosed with left bursitis in his left biceps/shoulder area. The inflammation is being treated, and he should be doing baseball activities in about a week.

Optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on June 17, Maybin has not played for the Zephyrs since July 1. In eight games at New Orleans, he is batting .357 (10-for-28) with five walks and four strikeouts.

Maybin opened the season as the Marlins starting center fielder. He appeared in 51 games and was batting .225 with five homers and 19 RBIs before being optioned.

Maybin's playing time was reduced after Mike Stanton was promoted from Double-A Jacksonville on June 8.

Hampered by a left shoulder problem since last year, Maybin had surgery on the shoulder following the 2009 season.

In other Triple-A news, infielder Brian Barden, who was designated for assignment on July 3, is expected to join the Zephyrs on Thursday.
