Redshirted last year (his freshman year)
        --------------------
UC Irvine's top recruit is lefthander Beau Wright, who during a practice session for the 2008 Aflac game was conked in the head by a line drive. The injury restricted him from pitching until the spring, and scouts were disappointed by his performance. A 6-foot-2, 230-pounder, Wright doesn't offer much projection and may struggle with fitness as his career progresses. His raw stuff is decent but not overwhelming, featuring an 89-91 mph fastball, a mid-80s two-seamer and a 74-77 mph curve. Both his command and velocity are hurt by his poor mechanics. Wright's freak injury has slowed his progress, but he still may draw early draft attention as a lefthander with average stuff.

After not really paying attention to this guy, since a late pick. This might have been a steal and a really great pick

Reading some of the reports on him and he was projected in some mocks to go in the First Round and was Cal-Irvine Top Prospect until he got hit in the head

If anyone wants to look up info about him he goes by Beau Wright

Keith Law had him as a Top 60 Prospect in 09,the Mariners and Angels fan sites had him goin in 1 or 1s to there teams

Lefty Beau Wright is the other player from SoCal making a case for the sandwich or second round. He has been throwing in the 88-92 range, and has one of the sharpest curveballs, particularly for a lefty, in the nation. Like Thompson, Wright was also an Aflac All-American last summer (where he received an award for sportsmanship), although he wasn't able to particpate in the scrimmage and game activities since he was hit in the head by a ball just before the event. Wright needs to vigilent with his body to make sure he doesn't get too soft, as he profiles in a similar fashion to Jo Jo Reyes.

Wright combines a good feel for pitching with a quality three pitch mix. His fastball reaches 90 or a little better and has arm side life, his curve has occasional late bite and his change has some sink action.

            Weird but rather interesting

Pre Aflac Report by Perfect Game: Beau Wright is a big strong lefty who can throw in the low 90s and carve hitters up with his secondary stuff. Good curveball, good changeup, very deceptive and excellent command of all three pitches. Wright plays with HB Nitro in the summer.

Skinny: Wright is a solid left-hander from southern California that has been blowing away high school hitters at recent showcases with solid stuff and advanced command. Wright works at 89-92 mph with a big-breaking curveball and good feel for his craft. At this level, he doesn’t need much more than that, but he’ll need to continue to make progress to find his way into the top two rounds come June.
