Marlins waiting for Goudeau

Palo Duro graduate Corey Goudeau, who pitched for Frank Phillips College the past two seasons, was drafted in the 18th round, 557th pick overall, by the Florida Marlins.

“I was kind of depressed until (Marlins officials) finally called me and told me they drafted me,” Goudeau said. “I’m happy.”

Goudeau has no more playing eligibility at Frank Phillips and said he expects his agent, Chad Cannon with Cannon & Nelson Sports management, to begin working out a deal with the Marlins immediately.

Righthander Corey Goudeau didn't start pitching until his junior year in high school and had to walk on at Frank Phillips JC, but he has emerged as one of the best juco arms in Texas. Six-foot-2 and 205 pounds, he has the potential for two plus pitches in his 88-92 mph fastball and his slider. He has committed to Alcorn State for 2011 but is considered signable.
