One Cavalier to make a name for himself against Strasburg was Morey. He went six innings in that game, allowing five hits, three walks and no runs while striking out nine. He was 9-2, 3.14 in 86 innings this season with 66 strikeouts and 33 walks as Virginia's Saturday starter. His fastball sits around 90-91 mph, though he can touch higher early in games. Against Florida State in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament he touched 95 mph but dropped off quickly and got knocked around. Morey competes enough to go deep in games, as he averages better than six innings a start. His second-best offering is a slider that is inconsistent but shows flashes of being a good pitch. He's a good athlete, but at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, scouts can't project him to add much to his arsenal.

Jeff Sackmann at Hardball Times ranked him as the sleeper of the 5th round

Morey K'd 11 batters per nine innings back in 2009, and the drop to 7 K/9 this year might explain why he got this far. Unfortunately, he didn't compensate by walking fewer guys. Some of his results, then, might have depended on the quality Virginia defense. In any event, he got the results as a top-tier ACC starter for his second year running.

A lot of scouts would take him over Rasmussen. All of a sudden there's a plethora of decent to above average college SP specs with Villanueva, Koehler, Morey, Rasmussen, Varner, etc.

Went and saw 4 innings during lunch.

                  Dude is good.

Serious arm side life to a fairly quick fastball. It was real quick in the 1st and 2nd, and settled in at 90-92 in the 3rd and 4th. 4 of his 5 K's were swinging (3 fastballs, 1 slider). He also struck out a guy looking on an outside edge changeup.

Nothing to note otherwise on anyone else, except that I think Kyle Jensen is getting more and more interesting. He was once talked about as a 2nd round talent, and after struggling in the first half has put up .904 since the break. He hit 2 balls hard today, one of which was robbed by a leaping third basemen, which would've gone for at least 2b.
