  • Phillies just drafted a great arm in Scott Frazier
    --------------------
Surprised we haven't drafted a HS arm yet.

      • You're a little ridiculous on this, MK7. Like, reaching "Todd and the Overblown Fear of AAA" levels.

The MLB Draft is a total crap shoot, especially past the 1st round. A HS pitcher in like the 4th round isn't any different than anything else.

            • We haven't drafted any high upside arms yet. Hope it's because we are high on arms such as Daniel Gil, Alvaro Estevez, Luis Chirinos, and Josh Hodges. I hope.

We never draft high upside arms in like 5th-10th Rds anymore. Our last ones were Brandon Barrow and Andrew Paulasuakas both long gone. Get ourselves some nice older arms who come cheap

We didn't do it this yr early however. Our farm is not exactly deep in SP prospects.

                  Right now its:

                  Chad James
                  Brad Hand
                  Alejandro Sanabia
                  Kyle Kaminska
                  Tom Khoeler
                  Elih Villaneuva

                  and after that it's a big ?????

                  • That's not that bad, considering most of them are a couple of years away and we have most of the rotation at the major league level set for a few years.

Besides C.James however all those names project to be either relievers or back end starters though. Would just like to see more upside. The Phillies and Braves currently have a ton of those high upside arms currently in their farm systems.

                      • I think both Hand and Sanabia (especially) are showing a good amount of upside.

I am a big fan of Hand but he is giving up a ton of hits. Will be more excited about Sanabia if I find somewhere that he works comfortably with a 89-93 FB.

I wish we had the Rays Front office, scouting team, and draft budget. What a draft!!!!

                          • You forgot Olmos and Petersen.

                            And Berglund
                            LHP Chad James-Jupiter Hammerheads-

                            • I wish we had an owner that would OK us spend the money

Tampa has a budget like ours however there owners have no problems spending cash in the draft while Loria tells Benifest to stick to guys that will sign for slot or cheaper

Petersen sucks as does Graham Johnson.

Still have faith in Olmos though. Berglund not so much after labrum surgery.
