Rand Smith, who played at Appalachian State University and was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 20th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft (608th player taken overall), has been promoted by the parent club. Smith has moved up to the Jupiter (Fla.) Hammerheads of the Advanced Class A Florida State League. Smith began the season with the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the Class A South Atlantic League. He batted .265 with a home run and 20 runs-batted-in with five doubles in 48 games. Smith is 1-10 in five games with the Hammerheads.
