Draft picks gets taste of the big leagues
The Marlins brought second-round draft pick Bryan Berglund to Dodger Stadium on Saturday for a meet and greet. A 6-foot-4 right-hander out of Royal High School in nearby Simi Valley, Berglund chatted with pitching coach Mark Wiley, Josh Johnson and Chris Volstad.

Wiley told him, "You don't have to be this tall to pitch in the major leagues."

Berglund, like first-round pick Chad James, has yet to sign.

"I really want to go out and play, but this is the one time I have for a while to be able to negotiate stuff and get what I want," said Berglund, who has committed to Loyola Marymount. "I'm pretty confident that I'll be signed just because I really want to go out and play."

      Signed him today!

The Marlins have agreed to terms with right-hander Bryan Berglund, their second round pick (66th overall) out of Royal High School in Simi Valley, Calif. No word yet on the signing bonus, but Berglund departed for Miami late Friday, presumably to take a physical and begin his pro career in Jupiter.

they mention him going to jupiter would we really send a high schooler right to High A ball? That seems a bit of a leap to me

Not the a+ affiliate but rather (extended spring training I think it was?). The mix up between the affiliate and the other thing happened earlier in the year too.

I believe he means the GCL Marlins, our rookie level team that also plays at Roger Dean in Jupiter.

Am I the only one who has more optimism for Berglund than James?

That seems to be a regular thing around him. I'm more excited that we signed Berglund than that we signed James.

it seems the organization has a trouble developing young lefties. alot of lhp propsects have been somewhat of disappointments

Got the details on his deal. Berglund signed for $572,500 per Baseball America.

I have high hopes for Berglund. Much more than Chad James.

I am still angry that the Marlins passed on Miller. The anger will subside someday, possibly.
The fact that James was drafted as a signability pick and he still held out for more money didnt endear him to me any more, either.

Besides that, though, I dont really see much of a difference in the upside of James and Berglund.
