  • New Division Alignment Options

Ok with the addition of Bob's roommate and Ray Finkle (taking over SF and NY, respectively)... and the contraction of Honolulu and Portland...

This is what I've come up with:

Due to the need to have even teams in leagues, we can't split the remaining 18 teams 9/9... as such, the TL would remain 10 teams and the BL would shift to 8.

This would require moving a BL East team out West, volunteers would be appreciated if this is the course of action. This would also make the BL divisions 4/4.

As a result of having fewer teams, our current playoff system should, in my opinion, be revamped. With 18 teams in our current system 4/9 (or roughly half) of all teams would make the playoffs. As such, I would think a "division winner only" stipulation would work, but if the consensus says otherwise, that's fine, too. Though, in that case, half of all BL teams would make the playoffs.

Anyways, that's what I've been stalemated on for the past couple days.

If anyone has any cool ideas, share them please.

Just gonna throw it out there, but if you need someone to step up and run another team (obviously, I mean run it....not trade off it's pieces and gut it) until/if you find another owner to take it over, I'd be willing to run one. I'm pretty fanatical about ootp, and I'd be willing to devote as much time to it as I do my own team. If we found another owner that would be willing to do the same, we wouldn't need to contract and have everything get all wonky.
This is a Dolphins town, though.

Would be better to contract. Me and PWG will be taking over Chicago like the previous CPU ran teams until either 1) another team leaves and we can contract or more hopefully 2) we find another owner. Really, really, really do not like having un-owned teams.

Also, while I agree with lowering playoff seeds, I think if we're doing only two teams from a league then we should get rid of divisions to make sure the best two teams in a league go to the playoffs.

So have 10 teams in the TL and 8 teams in the BL with no divisions, and top two teams in each league go to the playoffs.

I would really hate only 4 teams making the playoffs. I'd rather half the BL makes it in than 1/5 the TL.

While personally I would MUCH rather have only four total teams make the playoffs, I do think owner interest might be better if 8 total teams make it, since there's a lot higher chance a team does make it.

Although counter argument to that is that playoff races would help owner interest late in the season.

In MLB, 26.6% of teams make the playoffs.

With 8 total teams for us, 44.4% would make the playoffs. With 4 total teams, 22.2% would make it.

I mean we're kind of looking at NBA-style playoff format against MLB-style playoff format. I personally prefer NBA-style, as I'd rather a few teams get in that don't deserve it than have a couple teams miss out that deserve the chance. Just my 2 cents.

I propose getting rid of the divisions, and making it so the each league gets 3 playoff births with the top seed in each league getting a bye.

              I think that's a fair compromise.

If I could have, I would have proposed this, but OOTP doesn't do first round byes, unfortunately.

If we keep it at 8 total teams, I'd vote to have every playoff round be a best of 7, instead of the first series being best of 5

Here is my idea (if possible, which it may not be)

4 Div Winners with 1 WC from each league.

Have the BL east vs BL West and TL east vs TL west while having the BL wildcard vs TL wildcard.

The issue would be having a team from another league play each other and I don't know if you could do that.
                          --------------------
So it would be a 6 team playoff and thats the only way I could see doing it if there is no bye

cannot have teams from opposite leagues facing each other in the playoffs.

                            until the world series, obviously

the choices are four total teams in the playoffs or 8 total teams in the playoffs

I figured that was the case, its too bad we can't do a bye.
