1. There is more to this than just present talent. Prospects, like major league teams, play a giant role.

I don't understand how to say this any simpler. A team cannot shed copious amounts of cap space, a team has to give up value to get the space and a team simply cannot trade for the exemption time and time and time again without some adverse affects on their team, especially long term.

You're saying "it's so not fair in the immediacy." Well, it's no more or less fair than a team targeting the two premier players available for trade.
