By all indications he has a very strong arm which is something I think we've been lacking behind the plate for a while. And from what I've read, his footwork etc. needs a little bit of work but he is expected to be an above average defensive catcher and that makes me happy.

Also, he's a lefty hitter and I am naturally biased toward lefties.

Well, Skipworth wasn't thought of as a good defensive catcher. Although that's the one area he's actually improved a good deal.

And again, with regards to players I never saw play, I assume you are talking about skipworth and again, I never said that I knew he'd be awful (in fact one of my "reasons" at the time was that his name was Kyle Skipworth and no one with that name could be a good player) but I said he was not the right choice at the right time.

There wasn't ever any doubt about his power but there were always questions about his average and his catching abilities. Sure, he was the best catcher in the draft, but they literally drafted him because there wasn't another catcher in the system and we had Paul fucking Hoover in the big leagues at the time. like, I get it, MK7 hates Skipworth was a fun meme for a long time, but I nothing him. I don't like him, I don't hate him. I don't think he was the right pick at the time for a number of reasons but I don't wish for his untimely death or anything.

because he's a plus defender and he'll be able to step in when Buck is gone and hopefully bridge the gap to Realmuto/something more stable so we don't have to spend another $15-20 million in free agency on a below average catcher just because we need one
