Is it not possible to compare how good they are at what they do? No kidding they are different but that means they cant be compared? Every year the best player in the world is decided by comparing them against their peers. Are Messi, Ronaldo, and Neymar the same player? Is that why they are able to be compared.

Fine.

Landon Donovan is still better than Clint Dempsey. But one is more of a facilitator and one is more of a goal scorer (atleast in England).

Dempsey is having the year of his life right now, but I think Donovan's overall body of work and his fantastic play for Everton this year still keeps him on top for me right now. Landon is on the downside of this career though, so Dempsey should pass him soon.

I think Messi and Ronaldo are much similar players than Dempsey and Donovan are.

All spectators do is compare players that are not the same. Also Xavi was a finalist in 09 when messi won and they are not anymore similar than Dempsey and Donovan. The idea that you can't compare how good players are at what they do seems silly.

Gus Johnson and Ray Hudson would be the most epic combo ever. I've actually seen some pictures of Gus Johnson from his twitter of him going to some EPL games this year. Wasn't aware he was a futbol fan.
