Well those 3 groups joined up and just got the guy from the profit Marcus Lemonis to join. Imagine a whole season of the Miami Marlins on "The Profit" it could be the best show on TV. Least it sounds like this guy knows his role. Get spanish sponsors and spanish players to make it a "Hometown Team"

Says Rothbaum would run the ship. Not sure how I feel about another guy running the team who isn't interested in baseball but least this guy has cash. Not sure why they need Jeb's $10 bucks but long as none of these idiots are named President or GM who cares
Well right now we have a guy who knows 'everything there is to know' about baseball and we see how that works out.

It'd be nice to have someone that just writes the checks and leave the baseball decisions to baseball people. (Obviously a Jeter scenario would be different).

    ---

So how long before we realistically see Jeter join one of these two groups? I can't imagine he'd keep going on his own when he's had trouble raising money already.

    • We're going to end up with 37 different owners part of the final winning offer.

Long as the 36 owners know the 1 in charge,it doesn't matter. The problem with Jeb and Jeter was they both wanted to be in charge of the team-from sound of it Rothbaum has made it clear if he is the big money he has final say and is in control.

        • Mas may be the frontrunner now. He's said to have the money while the other groups down. There's talk that Jeter (and possibly members of the Romney group) could join Mas' bid when its all said and done

Mas AND Rothbaum both have the cash. Rothbaum is guaranteed at least 7 BILLION and his group have already have submitted a $1.1 billion bid, according to a Bloomberg Business report, and hope to close on the deal before the July 31 trade deadline

            Rothbaum/Romney/Bush/Lemonis/Glavine/Stewart/Leiter is the supergroup

            http://www.foxbusiness.com/features/...this-week.html

Mas is planning a 1-1.1 Billion dollar bid made up of him and other South FLorida business guys. He is worth 2-2.5 Billion AND wants to run the team fulltime. Manfred favors him as well

BEST part is none of these guys beside Jeter wants to actually run the team. Mas wants to run the operation BUT wants to hire baseball guys to run the team. Not hire his brother to be President of Operations and his deceased father's ghost to be the GM like we have now

                • Mas is my guy right now. Jeter running this team does not inspire confidence.

Mas will bring in people that understand the market better than anyone else. Not all these clowns who likely commute from Palm Beach. Miami is a different animal.

                    From Bob Nightengale:

The #Marlins have made significant progress on sale of team. Will get $1.1-$1.3 billion in all-cash deal from Rothbaum/Romney or Jeter group
                    And Barry Jackson:

                    http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/sp...158930549.html

None of the three groups bidding to buy the Miami Marlins has shown a willingness to meet the $1.3 billion asking price in revised offers, and the Marlins are now prepared to sell the team for something less, potentially in the $1.2 billion range, according to a New York-based Major League Baseball source that has been briefed on the situation.

The Marlins are seriously considering interest from three bidders: New York and Palm Beach-based Wayne Rothbaum and Massachusetts-based Tagg Romney; former New York Yankees star Derek Jeter; and Miami businessman Jorge Mas.

Owner Jeffrey Loria remains intent on selling the team and hopes to make a decision by the end of July.

                    ...

If Rothbaum and Romney get the team, it’s undetermined who would run baseball operations. Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Glavine is expected to have some role in the department.

Former big-league pitcher Dave Stewart, who was former general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks for 25 months (2014-2016), apparently has not been promised any role running the club, according to a source, but it’s unclear what the extent of Stewart’s involvement would be.

Both Glavine and Stewart have worked to help lure investors to the group.

If Jeter gets the team, he wants to be heavily involved in baseball operations. MLB has been led to believe that Jeter has had at least some success in solidifying his investment group in recent days.
So as we already know, it's down to 3 groups:

                    -Romney/Rothbaum/Glavine/Stewart/Bush/etc.
                    -Jeter
                    -Mas

and it'll likely be in the $1.1-1.2 range rather than $1.3. There's apparently no front runner, but sources say Loria may lean toward Jeter if things were equal between the Rothbaum/Jeter bids. It seems the Rothbaum group has most of the funds lined up, and that Mas could too; Jeter is still putting together money, but has made progress on it.

Loria hopes to make a decision by the end of July.

Loria will take the offer wih the most money in it. MLB wants Mas to own the team however they don't mind Rothbaum since he will be getting alot of $$ soon. Only issue with Rothbaum is so many "owners" u could have another Arizona type thing where nothing gets done because they have to vote on everything.

Mas would run the team himself and hire baseball guys which is why Jeter won't team with him.

Jeter wants to be the president of baseball himself/have say on the team

                        • As with everything Loria is involved in, it's a total mess. And I expect him to pick the worst group that can run the team, because, you know, LORIA !

I'm just afraid of the Mas racism taking over instead of choosing the best players. His familiy is hyper-Cuban and their racist idiocy could ruin the team from, a) only choosing Latino players instead of the best players, b) the stadium atmosphere going from Latin friendly to anti- Anglo & African-American, & open hostility & rudeness shown to anyone not Latino, c) no English speaking TV or radio.

Open hostility or rudeness to anyone not Latino? U live anywhere Orlando or Miami its all that already. Go to store and if u want to ask a question in English u have to get a manager. Everything is in Spanish already

To be honest Mas might actually help the market. Miami needs spanish players-as seen in the WBC that is what the fans want to see. They like Yelich,Stanton but u bring in a Machado or sign some Cuban and u will see the fans turn out. Something I never understood about Jeff,50 guys selected every year from the Miami area and we get 0 of them. Draft local players/draft spanish players/sign spanish guys=bigger crowds and more interest!! Instead we draft guys from OK,CA and sign Japanese guys

Jeff is going to sell to whoever offers the most money(he doesn't care who it is-soon as he sells he is taking his billion to Italy)-was a story out that he told Rothbaum's group give me $1.3 billion and the team is yours right after the ASG. He said NO and stayed at 1.1. Mas is at 1.1 too
