It is important because of what Erick said. We're a half game back of 2nd place. Finishing in 2nd after losing Fernandez, then Stanton, and even Ozuna for the last week would be huge for a team that lost 100 wins and was a laughing stock a year ago.

I feel like .500 would be a great accomplishment after last season. 2nd place doesn't do much for me, as they say, if you're not first you're last, and if we were in any other division we'd be easily 3rd place at best.

If you don't finish in 1st place or win a wild card spot your place in the standings means nothing. Finishing at .500 would have been a much bigger deal.

Yes it would have. It's still a morale booster. And it still (hopefully) signals to the front office hey, we did pretty damn good, imagine if we upgrade a few things and spend a little bit of money appropriately

My brother went to the stadium yesterday because he's a high school coach and the team he coaches might play a game or two at Marlins Park this year.

I don't know how it happened, but before the game at 6, he and a bunch of other high school coaches were talking to Dan Jennings about Marlins baseball.

Jennings had a lot of positive things to say about this year's team and a lot of negative things to say about the 2012 team supposedly.

First time since 2010 #Marlins will not finish last in NL East. Could end up as high as 2nd, no lower than 4th
                        Sorry Phillies.

Also, as of right now, the Marlins own the 12th pick in the 2015 draft. This is the first pick not to be protected.

No lower than fourth is a bit repetitive

No lower than 4th. What a mind boggling achievement.
