If GBoro wasn't 1GB for the 2nd Half Title Brian Miller would have already been put on the DL and relaxing till Extended ST. WTF are u talking about when u ask Why is Brian Miller in Greensboro? What do u think he is gonna be on the ML team next year or something? He is in Greensboro because they are fighting for a title and next year he will start in Jupiter. Its like when u say guy X only threw 20 innings-ya he did for US but he might have already throw 80 in college or HS. So total he has 100 innings this year on his arm

Before u ask stupid questions do some research or atleast ask a janitor!!!

So to answer your question the reason Brian Miller is in Greensboro is because #1 Greensboro is fighting for a title while Jupiter sucks and #2 no reason to push him he has already 500AB's in 2017. Let's move him up to Jupiter for 10 days for no reason. Why?? Well Rays16 thinks he should be up and Braxton Lee? Well Rays16 wants him up in NOLA. Why when we are fighting for a title and he will see alot better pitching in the AFL?
Brian Miller sure seems worn out! That .330 BA while only striking out 22 times in 42 games are very indicative of a tired player. Great point! Bring them up to another level because they are fucking ready. If it speeds up their development, i dont really give a fuck if greensboro doesnt win their title.

I would have brought him up a few weeks ago. When a guy clearly shows he has mastered a level, you move him up. Simple as that. Especially a highly just drafted college player who is in A ball who should be expected to move quickly through the system anyway.

Also, checking the standings, Jupiter was 2.5 games out just 10 games ago before the first place team went on a 10 game winning streak.

nah tjfla is right on this one. These guys play all year round, so it isn't unrealistic in the slightest to think about shutting them down early before AFL time.

Miller has also done what he's done in 178 AB's in Gboro. 43 games is a pretty small sample size. KJ Woods was a god in Gboro in 43 games.

Marlins are handling him on point right now. Prospects take time to grow.

They might have found something in Matt Givin

4.1IP 7K today ERA is down to 0.63!!

Brayan Hernandez is back in GCL,looks like GBoro is gearing up for postseason

Also looks like we might have a problem next year(Good Problem however)

          GBoro OF-Cespedes,Hernandez,Thomas Jones,Jhonny Santos,Terry Bennett
Jupiter OF-Knapp,Bird,Sullivan,Garrett,Isael Soto,Brian Miller(well if he doesn't make the ML team maybe he starts at Jax?)

OF already pretty full without possible the guy with the most potential-Yeral Encarnacion. He is putting up Ozuna type numbers in GCL and is 6'4 220 at 19

Also it only took us 3 years but we finally got Grant Green!!! He is a 29 yr old minor league guy now but gotta love how this FO can't get off guys no matter what

In addition to signing 3B Grant Green this week, the Marlins traded for 2B Jake Elmore, late of the Blue Jays, for cash. Elmore has 478 major league at-bats and at the time of the trade, was hitting .231 with a homer and 36 RBIs (.594 OPS) at AAA Buffalo. Both Green and Elmore are in AAA New Orleans.

RHP Ryley MacEachern was released. A 33rd round pick in 2015, MacEachern pitched mostly for Greensboro this season, compiling a 4.15 ERA in 19 relief appearances. He struck out 18 and walked 18 in 21.2 innings.

Despite those 2 guys struggles, I wish they would add more of those guys before the season starts rather than in August. It isnt hard to add a couple guys to minor league deals at every position that gives them better depth so we dont have to sign a guy like Mike Aviles and immediately promote him because a few of our SS's get injured. Ideally, eventually we invest in the draft and those players develop and become solid depth, but in the meantime it really isnt that hard to not completely ignore team depth.

Depth might not win you championships, but it can certainly help avoid those seemingly annual prolonged streaks of terrible baseball the marlins always have when injuries strike.

They are just playing out the season and need IF since Anderson hurt/Aviles up in ML so they picked up these guys for 2 weeks. Elmore probably cost $1.

Gonna be interesting to see how Jeter plays it but hopefully he builds thru the system instead of 5 guys from Minor League Rule 5 and 30 26 yr old career minor leaguers. From the sounds of it they are gonna do it how the NYY do which is draft highly ranked guys and hit the IFA market hard

                        Jeter(President of Baseball)-Gary Denbo(VP of Baseball/GM)-Gordon Blakeley(Special Assistant-International Scouting) RUMORED

Blakeley has been with the Yankees for more than two decades and assumed the role of farm director in 1998. Three years later he became vice president of pro scouting, with a focus on the international market, and he is credited with helping the Yankees sign Robinson Cano, Orlando Hernandez, Jose Contreras and Hideki Irabu.

Blakeley is older now so doesn't do much in terms of scouting but still has alot of contacts and knows the market. He's been with Atlanta since 2014 and we all know how much they hit in IFA

I certainly hope they start taking the route of drafting high potential guys. I know you have to fill in a system, but this whole idea of taking old, college seniors who are easy to sign but have no real major league potential is a mind boggling strategy.

A lot of things Loria did to save money just came back to bite him in the ass when he had to spend money to sign average major league free agents for way too much money. This is obviously oversimplifying it but if you invest in the draft and young IFA talent and work to develop that talent, you do spend money right away and inevitably miss on guys but you also most time get rid of the need to often fill your major league team with average MLB free agents like Chen and Volquez for millions of dollars a year. The fact that a cheap ass owner like Loria never understood the concept of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on 16 year old IFA talent in the hopes that you make a return by having them become successful major leaguers and having them under contract for cheap for 6 years rather than having to sign mediocre veterans for 10's of millions a year blows my mind.

The most economically inefficient way to spend money is on mediocre major league free agent talent, specifically relievers, which loria loves doing.

It's definitely not a secret that drafting well and hitting on international free agents has been the key to building championship teams in the 2010s. The old school view of building through free agency is for the most part dead. You build through finding and grooming players in your own system, and after that you start using those pieces to get established players elsewhere to build a playoff winner.

I think free agency is useful, but for finding hidden gems through market inefficiencies like platoon players and star players who work out. The worst thing you can do is spend significant money on replacement level players or relievers which is exactly what we do.
