    • I was looking at the Tigers boards and everyone seems to be under the impression that Price to the Marlins means Yelich to the Tigers.

      --------------------
In addition to Heaney and Eovaldi and Cishek. They're dreaming if they think they're getting that package for a rental.

I agree with Erick though. Not sure how we couldn't match the Tigers offer to TB.
Was just throwing an offer out there. Didn't think that would be enough either. But no way you move either Yelich or Ozuna for a rental

        • I like Gattis primarily because he doesn't use batting gloves

          • BA has an article up on the Rule 5 Draft

Mark Canha and Jarlin Garcia are mentioned as 2 of the Top 10 in it

Says Canha has a good chance of getting picked

Platoon him with Bour and you'd have the biggest, meanest set of batting gloveless first baseman in the bigs.

None-they wanna make a splash but don't want to or can't pay the price for the guys out there. They wanted Sandoval but couldn't come close to his number after signing Stanton. This is why u are hearing the names in trade talks

They want a power bat that can play 1B and a SP who is solid-no 1 yr 35 yr old.

Arizona could be a spot with Miley/Trumbo and another team to watch is Cincy they have arms/bats but may want way to much for them

Also the Detroit talk was not really even talk-they called to see if Detroit was interested in Cishek/minor league arm for 1 of them(Since both FA) and were told NO

                      • Definitely think they look at Trumbo now. They wanted him last year IIRC.

That's nothing. Wish we would've matched it.

                          • Mark Trumbo is a right handed Garrett Jones who makes even more money.

Like, it's kind of funny how much they are the same player. Similar walk rates, strike out rates, power rates, everything.

He's a slight upgrade due to the age difference and being a better fielder, but if we go in with him as our 1B I am not excited.

edit: Actually more I think about it, more I'm okay with it as a buy low opportunity. Projected 5.7m in arbitration and he was a solid 2+ war player previous three years. Just as long as we don't give up much at all.

                            • Interesting Rule V list. It's sad the Angels didn't protect Cowart. He was a top prospect but has been horrible the past two seasons in Double-A.

                              • MIAMI -- When it comes to making personnel decisions, the Marlins have a long history of saying "quality is quality" regardless of whether a hitter or pitcher is right-handed or left-handed. The World Series-winning 2003 squad, for instance, was predominantly right-handed in both the hitting and pitching departments.

But as Miami's front office scans the market for upgrades, they are definitely seeking to add more left-handed balance. It's being revealed by their reported interest in southpaw starter David Price and former American League home run champ Chris Davis.

As constructed now, the Marlins' roster is loaded from the right side. The lone lefty in the rotation is Brad Hand. And Garrett Jones, who is being shopped, is their main left-handed power threat. Christian Yelich bats lefty, but he is more of a pure hitter than a candidate to knock the ball out of the yard.

Another potential trade candidate is Oakland's Brandon Moss, a left-handed hitter with pop who plays first base and the outfield.

Moss, 31, is arbitration-eligible the next two seasons.

Miami's search for lefty power continues because the club missed out on Adam LaRoche, who signed a two-year, $25 million deal with the White Sox. Miami produced a two-year, $20 million offer.

Moss' production tailed off in the second half in 2014, as he hit .162 over the last two months. But for the year, he belted 25 homers and drove in 81 runs. He finished with a slash line of .234/.334/.438.

The Marlins covet players who accept roles, are solid in the clubhouse and have winning backgrounds. Moss certainly is battle tested. He blasted two home runs in Oakland's 9-8 loss in 12 innings at Kansas City in the American League Wild Card Game.

The Marlins are seeking a threat to bat behind Giancarlo Stanton.

The Miami Herald reports the Marlins have interest in Davis, who belted 26 homers and drove in 72 runs, before he was suspended 25 games in September for amphetamines.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound first baseman also can play some third base and the outfield. In 2013, the slugger led the AL in homers (53) and RBIs (138).

Davis, represented by Scott Boras, is a free agent in 2016, so he likely would be a one-year option for Miami.

The Herald also reported the Marlins have interest in Atlanta's Evan Gattis, who caught for most of 2014, but he also can play first base. Gattis hits from the right side.

In terms of pitching, Miami is seeking a front-line starter. The ideal choice would be a southpaw.

According to FOXSports.com, the Marlins have approached the Tigers regarding Price, who is a free agent in 2016. Miami had interest in Price at the non-waiver Trade Deadline this past July when he was still with Tampa Bay.

Wade Miley could be another lefty option, but the Marlins have not reached out to the D-backs yet.

The Marlins are open to trading some of their young pitching either for a slugger in the lineup or a big league-established starter.

Nathan Eovaldi, Hand and Andrew Heaney, the team's No. 1 prospect, could be available for the right offer. The progression of lefty Justin Nicolino has the club willing to listen on offers for Heaney.
