While DeLuzio plays shortstop now, he will likely move to center field -- where his plus speed and average arm profile well -- as a professional.

        --------------------
First Academy shortstop Ben Deluzio learned two things Friday.

        1. How difficult it is to eat when a friend has his arm wrapped around you.

        2. To which organization he is headed to begin his pro baseball career.

For Deluzio, the two were intertwined because his friendā€™s response alerted Deluzio to the baseball draft coverage on his iPad. Then he realized he was selected in the third round by the Miami Marlins, the first Sentinel coverage-area high-school player to come off the board during the three-day draft.

        ā€œI didnā€™t know what was going on,ā€ Deluzio said. ā€œWhat a cool moment.ā€

Deluzio was the 80th overall selection. Boone left-hander Ian McKinney, a UCF signee, was taken in the fifth round by the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Angels chose former Mount Dora right-hander Garrett Nuss in the seventh round. He began his college career at UCF and played last season for Seminole State College. Former Timber Creek outfielder Tyler Marincov, a junior at North Florida, was taken by the Oakland Athletics in the eighth round.

Deluzio plans to forgo a scholarship to Florida State and sign with the Marlins.

ā€œIā€™m looking forward to staying on the infield and making a difference for the Marlins,ā€ said Deluzio, who hit .400 with 20 RBIs and 32 runs scored for First Academy in 2013.

Gotta love when a guy quotes u a price,u match the price and that is still not good enough for him.

5th Rd talent taken in the 3rd Rd because he wants 3rd Rd money and still complains!!

What we need to do is give him 40% of slot offer and forget about him,get the comp pick in 2014!!!

RULES-For compensation for not signing a third round pick, teams would get a pick in a supplemental round between the third and fourth rounds

Remember last year when Heaney was heading back to college? I'll believe that this kid is turning down $600K when I see it.

All reports now indicate he has signed up for summer classes at Florida State and will not sign. If he really did set a price and then turn it down, really poor play on the kid - might put the Marlins off selecting kids with no 'advisor' in the future.

Can't blame the FO for either Deluzio or Krook - offered them fair money and get the picks back so nothing really lost. CB lottery in a week or so (based on last year) so should have plenty of good picks again next year.
