      • ### The Marlins want to add another bat this offseason and would be open to moving Christian Yelich to first base --– where he played in high school --- if they have better luck finding a quality free-agent left fielder than first baseman. One problem is that disappointing Garrett Jones is due $5 million next season. The Marlins would like to upgrade there nevertheless.

        • Would rather move Stanton to 1B, if that's the way it's gonna go.

          • I agree with that. Although Stanton's been good in RF this year, he still does awkward stuff some times and I swear he's going to injure himself.

            • Yeah, Stanton's fine in RF, and you'd be wasting his arm at 1B, but if they actually intend for him to be here long term, keeping him healthy is key.

                • You know they're going to sign Boner and put him in CF batting leadoff.

                  • I would not at all mind Yelich-Ozuna-Aoki with Stanton at 1B.

                    Aoki
                    Yelich
                    Stanton
                    McGehee (lol)
                    Ozuna

and the rest of the lineup would be crap but it's a start

                    • But guys, Miami has one of the best outfields in baseball. You can't break that up.
                      --------------------
You have to add Yasmani Tomas to the list. He should be cleared soon.

                      • Stanton can't field a groundball from the outfield. I don't think he's capable of playing first base.

Not sure why you'd be willing to do this for Aoki.

                          • If they picked up Hammer, who I really doubt will command much, and did Jones/Hammer platoon, and Dietrich/Baker platoon, that would automatically be a significant upgrade. Then you still have money for a lefty bench bat, and maybe a veteran starter, but obviously Dietrich is not gonna play.

I actually expect them to keep Dietrich, but keep him in New Orleans out of spite.

Well, I did say this like three posts earlier:

"Stanton's fine in RF, and you'd be wasting his arm at 1B, but if they actually intend for him to be here long term, keeping him healthy is key."

Aoki happened to be the one name I picked out as a someone they might be able to get for a decent price, because I don't think they're going to spend $8m+ to move Garret Jones to the bench.

By all means, if they want to spend more, target someone better. But they're looking for a leadoff hitter and corner outfielder, and he would be a fine choice for both.
                              --------------------
I'm skeptical of the Marlins' willingness to spend real money and their ability to target the right guys if they do spend money. So, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's fair, but if that's the type of guy they'd target, I'd much rather keep the current OF and deal with the Jones/Baker platoon at 1B (which is probably just as productive, if not more productive, than Aoki starting every day).

Only way I'd move Yelich to 1B is if we're getting an OF'er who's a clear upgrade over our current situation at 1B. I don't think that Aoki is that guy.
