Pretty common theme on the year.

To at least be a bit fair, Headley is a switch hitter. And...

    Split OPS+ vs RHP/LHP
    Gardner: 103/93
    Headley: 104/90
    Arod: 100/99

So none really have a split.

To be clear, I'm not defending it. Latos is coming off injury and was gassed and faced four strait LHB, and their notion that Dunn is equally effective against both hands is so erroneously frustrating. But it's not like he brought Dunn in to face a Jeff Baker.

But why was Bour and not Ichiro in the line up tonight to begin with?

I detect sarcasm but Ichiro has been better against lefties over his career (.789 OPS vs. .753) and this year (.878 vs. .628).

Yes sarcasm due to the fact that our team doesn't read splits or understand how to run a team

This game thread has 3 losses in a row. Have we given up and just going to run a season long thread now?

A trade might happen with Koehler and Hand, but nothing for sure, just speculation between Frisaro and Spencer.

Wonder what kind of return that gets. Also wasn't Cosart scheduled to start an extra rehab game today, why wouldn't they just activate him?

From their talk of potentially moving him to the bullpen and keeping him on an extended rehab stint, it seems they've soured on him? I'm not a huge fan of his, but rather quick to give up on a guy you just traded two top hitting prospects for.

Justin Nicolino to make MLB debut tonight as Tom Koehler dealing with neck/back pain

CINCINNATI -- One of the turning points in the 2003 season for the Marlins came at Great American Ball Park when Tommy Phelps made an emergency start in place of Brad Penny, who was scratched due to an illness. Phelps won that night, and the Marlins continued their march to the World Series.

                            Could history repeat itself?

According to sources, Tom Koehler -- who was scheduled to start tonight -- was scratched due to neck and back pain. And the Marlins have called up left-hander Justin Nicolino Triple A New Orleans to take the mound in his place. An official announcement should be forthcoming.

Nicolino ranks as the No. 3 prospect in the Marlins' organization (behind pitchers Tyler Kolek and Jose Urena) and was acquired in the big 2012 trade with Toronto. What's interesting is that Nicolino will be facing the Reds' Anthony DeSclafani, who was also obtained in that blockbuster deal before being traded to the Reds over the winter for Mat Latos.

Nicolino, 23, doesn't have overpowering stuff, relying instead on pinpoint control. This season, he has gone 4-3 with a 2.87 ERA in 13 starts for New Orleans, striking out 45 while walking 21 in 78 1/3 innings.

To make room for Nicolino, catcher Jhonatan Solano was designated for assignment.

At this point, the extent of Koehler's injury is uncertain. He isn't being placed on the disabled list, at least not as of yet. But it's yet one more injury to a member of the Marlins' starting rotation. Henderson Alvarez, Latos and Jarred Cosart have already spent time on the disabled list. Of the original five-man rotation, only Dan Haren hasn't missed a start due to injury.

                            2003 World Series memories FTW!!!!!!!!!!

While I get that writers are limited to putting out a positive spin for the most part, that particular line is just embarrassing.

No, this team is not the 2003 team. They weren't 11 games under at this point.

Phelps was 29 at that point and was out of baseball 3 years later. Even if you don't think highly of Nicolino, I doubt anyone thinks he'll be out of baseball 3 years from now. Who wrote that garbage?

Also, the Cosart shit is ridiculous.
