  • Transacion: Marlins Signing Jeremy Guthrie to Minor-league Deal

Per Ken Rosenthal on Twitter. Probably not the starting pitching depth most were hoping for.

Well NOLA could use a few SP. Better depth than Dylan Axelrod and Narveson

      Nicolino,Flores,Cosart,Reed SP in AAA
      Urena,Ege,Breslow,Jokisch,Hall,Lazo,Ogando RP in AAA

We do have a few options already in the system however the pen is actually pretty solid already. Need a SP bad tho-Clemens needs to go

Likely we will add a Bud Norris/Liriano as low cost option(Draft Pick and one or 2 prospects)

I mean, he might be better than Clemens

I just noticed Flores is on rehab, so there's also that.

Not only on rehab but looking good too

Its like us claiming guys this year-Berry,Wojo,Hall,Jokisch. I would rather have us add some talent than in years past when we just sit around and be content with being cheap. If u have the ability to add something why not?

Its like the Corporan signing, while its not big it does let us use Telis as a trade chip if needed. In years past we would have traded Telis and our luck than need a C

I'm kinda stunned Clemens is still on the roster. He's really been awful.

Who do u replace him with?

Nicolino is getting right,Cosart is on DL,Flores is in AA working his way back,Urena only starts in AAA,Jokisch is a RP now,Jarlin Garcia is on the DL,Brice is a RP finally,Wojo is in AA,Esch has looked like crap.

              So choices are Clemens,Dylan Axelrod,Craig Breslow,Chris Reed,Chris Narveson

I would've gone with Reed before Clemens, but honestly as bad as Nicolino has been, he's still better than Clemens and should've held the job until we could replace him via trade.

It's not a horrible idea. Especially considering how good Barraclough, Ellington and Wittgren have been.

Stretch Phelps out over 3 or 4 starts, see if he can cut it as a starter, if not make a deal for starter, move him back to the pen, if yes make a deal for reliever.

Looks like they have made Austin Brice into David Phelps 2.0 finally or as Jeff calls him Cheaper option than David Phelps.

Brice is now in the pen looking like a beast

Would have been my guess as well especially with Bearclaw,Ellington and Wittgren but havent even heard his name mentioned. Think Mattingly loves him as the 8th inning guy too much to even consider it. Plus the way they talk about Phelps on the broadcasts it like they are reading from a script given to them on how much better Phelps is throwing 1 inning

And that is stupid. He was finally coming into his own as a starter and is still only 23 years old. I would rather see him get some starts and see if he can hang in the majors than watch them keep throwing Tom Koehler, Jose Urena, Justin Nicolino, or whoever else out there.

Tom Koehler has been pretty good this year, especially recently (2.92era over his last 10 starts) so that's a weird take.

If Chen and Koehler are your 4 and 5 guys, your pitching staff is quite good. Unfortunately they're our 3-4.
