  • Teams do this type of shit all the time. They come back. This is baseball, not basketball or football. Weird shit happens in baseball.

So what you guys are saying is that this team does not have an opportunity to contend this year; therefore, why do you guys continue to watch games? You are basically initiating that you watch games with your mind set on them losing. Not sure how someone can withstand that.

    • They are not out of it. They are not necessarily "in it" either, but that doesn't mean they should sell off players. There is a value to finishing as close to .500 as possible for this team.

      • They are only out of it if they sell players instead of adding a valuable piece or two.

Bobbob is suffering from LMFS (Longtime Marlins Fan Syndrome) so I have empathy for him.

        • No, they're out of it.

          • The Marlins are not a playoff caliber team. They don't have the pieces in my opinion to go out and get the players that will make them a playoff team. They don't have the money to sign big contracts in free agency. So imo, the best route for the Marlins is to unload players they can get good value for and don't have a long-term future in Miami, other than Giancarlo. They will fill in holes in their roster that way.

So yes, selling is the best option for the Marlins.

            • They don't have any frontline pitching. Jose going down ended our season.

              • Why do we advocate trading our young pitching? You guys are suggesting the same behavior that makes you hate Loria and the organization. Im sick of trading guys just because we are not a playoff team. Is there a rule that you have to trade guys just because you're not going to win the World Series? It's a perpetual losing mentality. "Trade guys because we aren't winning, so we can get younger unproven guys who may contribute in the future to our young team that won't be winning the World Series so we'll need them to fill in for the guys we trade for young guys in the future."

CAN WE BUILD A FUCKING TEAM OVER TIME FOR ONCE?!

                • Not trading your 28 year old closer when your team is going nowhere just because you're tired of losing is a bad way to run a baseball team.

As would be signing said closer to a long-term deal when you're a franchise with (artificially) limited resources. You absolutely trade Cishek now, there's no reason not to. This team should not be spending big money on bullpen arms under any circumstances.

The problem I have with this is that it's the same old battered wife syndrome talk year in and year out.

The fact remains that the Marlins don't lock up talent. It's their sociopath modus operandi.

It's always, "2015 is our year!" oh wait, "2016 is our year! Hold on a sec "2017 IS OUR YEAR!!!1111".

                      Where does it end?

                        • Until Loria is gone this team will never lock up anyone. He wants bottom line. Which in reality if he actually signed young talent and kept it asses would be in the seats which equals more rev. Also i know this is crazy saying but maybe make the playoffs. Hey more rev. But instead we live off the rev sharing and dont spend shit.

Agreed 100%. Eventually we have to pick a window and compete.

Cishek doesn't change that window. He's a really good player in a role completely overvalued by a lot of baseball. If we don't compete next year, it won't be because we traded Steve Cishek. But the haul he brings might be the reason we do compete.

                              • Texas just got two really good pitchers from Detroit (Knebel & Thompson). I would assume Cishek could get at least that since the team acquiring him would have 3 1/2 years of him. You have to trade him now.
