  • Trade Deadline Watch 2017

Might as well start it now

    - - - - - - - - - -

Names that teams are asking about include

    AJ Ramos
    Volquez(Signed for next year)
    Bearclaw
    Brian Ellington
Tom Koehler(Not as many as LY put 2 or 3 still like him-Colorado is 1)
    Ziegler(Signed for next year)
    Tazawa(Signed for next year)
    Phelps
    Ichiro
Ozuna(Not as many as u think but because of price they think we want for him)
    Hech
    AJ Ellis

Mattingly seems to be safe for now with Jeff keeping him around and letting the new owners decide about him.

Prado,Chen and Stanton are safe all due to contracts. Dee could be dealt just not much interest. Yelich,JT,Bour,Straily all seem to be safe as of today BUT if they get crazy offers for any of them its see ya

2 issues on blowing it up

#1 Jeff doesn't want a rebuild cause he wants to win still and thinks it will bring the price down
#2 The FO is Jeff and Mike Hill and as seen they are not really suited to do a rebuild. Plus they don't wanna trade guys that have value to the new ownership. Same reason Mattingly will likely stay around till new owners

Only real keepers are Yelich(on great contract),Bour(cheap power bat),Rojas(cheap SS) and a few arms like Wittgren,Garcia,Steckenrider,Urena,Conley. JT and Straily could be had IF they got some crazy offers but they are likely safe too

Pretty much about 8-10 guys are safe(3 cause of $) but no one knows if he will sell off or not. Just dont forget AJ,Koehler,Phelps,Hech are all likely gone next year(Non Tender) so if we don't deal them we lose them for nothing, rather get some 22 and younger guys for them and let the new owners figure stuff out in 2 years. Even if NOT great prospects u can't just let guys goes for nothing

      - - - - - - - - - -

Gammons has the Orioles, Red Sox, Tigers and Mariners as the teams that want Koehler. Rockies also interested

      http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2017/5/2...ed-sox-orioles

It would be sell low but ill take 2 prospects(1 mid and 1 low level) from Boston/Seattle or Colorado for him. Knowing us tho Jeff will send him to Baltimore for IFA cash

For future use:Top Prospects are Most teams #1-8 guys(Household names/scouts love),Mid Prospects are #12-18 range OR 23/24 yr olds who maybe in AA looking great/ready for ML(Bearclaw would be an example) and Low level prospects are usually #25 or lower OR guys in Rookie Ball(Project types that need time)

And Koehler will end up being an impactful bullpen arm for a contender, guaranteed.

Might surprise u but the impact BP arm that most teams like from us is Brian Ellington. A number of teams see him as a closer right now

Javy Guerra in AAA has even got a few nibbles

That doesnt surprise me at all. Ellington seems like the kind of guy, just based on the marlins history, that cant throw strikes consistently here but will go somewhere else and figure it out and will be a really good cost controlled reliever for a while.

            - - - - - - - - - -

Btw, is Derek Dietrich becoming a guy who we failed to sell high on?

Not really,he still has some value but was never a high value guy. He fits certain teams like Oakland/Houston/Cubs but his bat/on base is what teams team love. U could get a UT type and lower level prospect in return if u traded him still. The thing is we already have 4 UT types who can't hit.

They kept trying to ship him to TB for pitching last year and kept being told no thanks

Oh I know all the issues tjfla, and it's more of a frustration "blow it up" comment than anything. There are definitely pieces that are worth keeping.

Miami's Beat Reporter Nick Cafardo has some news

                      http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/re...TTL/story.html

While there are many red flags concerning Jeffrey Loria’s ability to sell the Marlins, both potential bid groups are wondering, according to a major league source, can baseball ever make it big in Miami?

There’s a feeling the team needs a major Latin American star, which is perhaps why Loria made an unsuccessful attempt to bring in Alex Rodriguez last year. It would make sense for the Marlins to go hard after Manny Machado, a free agent after the 2018 season who would have great support in his hometown. The signing of Giancarlo Stanton simply hasn’t moved the needle because he has yet to live up to the 13-year, $325 million contract and because the deal itself has become a burden in selling the team.
Stanton has a full no-trade provision and he likely wouldn’t waive it unless he’s traded to a West Coast team, and neither the Dodgers nor Angels seem inclined to take on all or part of the contract. The Giants could be a possibility, but they’re trying to get below the luxury tax threshold.

Tom Koehler, RHP, Marlins — Koehler will come off the disabled list shortly and the Marlins are actively looking for a taker. The big righthander was 1-2 with a 7.04 ERA in eight starts before going down with a shoulder injury. The Dodgers have shown interest in Koehler as a reliever and the Red Sox have had at least internal discussions about him.

That would be a typically great Andrew Friedman move and a typically horrible Marlins selling low trade. This team simply does not understand the most fundamental ideas of baseball and business in general.

                        - - - - - - - - - -

The idea of Loria selling in a way is delaying this inevitable rebuild by at least a year and is going to make sure that we dont do what we should be doing at the trade deadline. Ramos, Koehler, Bour, Ozuna, Prado, Stanton and literally just about everyone except Yelich and JT should be moved and a complete rebuild should be the plan, but it wont be because we're likely gonna be in a holding pattern because of the impending ownership change.

Its not really delaying it because he won't do anything before the ASG. If they have an agreement by the ASG with new owners than he will NOT do anything and let the new guys decide. However if no agreement, don't be surprised if u see us sell off alot of guys-#1 The groups have both told him they wanna lose contracts and #2 They want a minor league system to build from which is why u see us looking at HS guys more than college in the draft

AJ Ellis,Ramos,Koehler,Phelps,Hech are already gone next year(NON Tender) so they will look to get stuff for them instead of saying see ya. Ichiro,Tazawa,Volquez,Ziegler are all signed next year which means u could get something for all of them except Ichiro(likely some low level prospect). Prado,Stanton,Chen are all untradeable due to contract and Gordon has NO interest around the league

Bour,DD,Bearclaw,Ellington all have value but are cheap so no clue what they are doing with them. Would think if they got a great offer they would deal any of them

The only way JT gets dealt is if we trade Ozuna to St Louis. St Louis loves Ozuna and has the best C in the minors in Carson Kelly. Get a Kelly,Magnierus Sierra/Harrison Bader and arm or 2 package then send JT somewhere for more talent.***NOT a Ozuna to St Louis Rumor just saying if u got a Carson Kelly u would move JT***

Id rather get pitching in any trade for Ozuna. Either try to buy low on Alex Reyes in the middle of Tommy John, and in the likely event they turn that down, go for Luke Weaver and Jack flaherty and a lower level guy. Ozuna, Phelps, Koehler, Bour, Ramos should all be traded by the deadline. Blow this up and get good young pitching.

As for fundamental ideas,it has more to do with us not having a FO. Most of the teams now have the President/VP/GM FO with the owner only around to watch big games or have to OK some big trade.

Our FO is Jeff,Mike Hill/Mike Berger with Stan Meek running the draft(drafts same type of guys every year) and DelPiano running the Minors. Jeff and Mike Hill don't wanna do any of the hard work

Now the Cubs FO is Theo/Jed Hoyer/2 Assistant GM. LA is Friedman/Alex Anthopolus/Zaidi/Josh Byrnes. These guys make all the decisions from who to DFA to where a prospect will play

                              - - - - - - - - - -

Well so would I,just saying IF u trade Ozuna to St Louis u could get a Carson Kelly and then in turn trade JT for even better pitching. I know u love Telis BUT its hard to trade a catcher if the replacements are Telis,Ramon Cabrera and nothing else. U get Kelly,an Major league Ready OF to replace Ozuna and another arm. The feeling around baseball is both groups wanna blow this team up big and it will be a 5 year rebuild(Think Houston) so guys 21/22 are what they are looking for

The thing about Bour is he is still cheap. U could hold onto him until the new owners figure stuff out. Ozuna is the same u don't need to trade him yet. Our valuable pieces are in order Yelich,Ozuna,JT,Bour,Straily

Phelps,Koehler,Ramos,Hech,AJ Ellis,Volquez,Tazawa,Ziegler,McGowan,Ichiro all should be gone by the deadline. They won't bring big returns but NONE of them will likely be on the team next year so might as well get something
