  • Loria, preparing for the anticipated sale, has privately taken care of several of his most trusted front-office employees. Michael Hill, Marlins president of baseball operations, recently received a five-year extension worth more than $10 million. Several other front-office executives already have five-year deals in place.

    That's kind of annoying.

    • What exactly is hyper-Cuban and where has the Mas family exhibited racism?

I can't wait until they fire Rich Waltz/Todd Hollandsworth and replace them with Felo Ramirez/Yiqui Quintana.

      • It concerns me quite a bit that so much of the talk surrounding the deadline is about just dumping money and not rebuilding this team by getting good prospects.

          • Barry Jackson tweeted this (I couldn't get the tweet quote box to post):

Also, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred has said baseball would need to be consulted if Marlins choose to do this in midst of sales talks.
So at least we have that hope.

Well the dumping of the salary has to do more with guys who are FA or soon to be. The good prospects will come when u trade actual good players!!

It really depends on the new owner. Mas is said to want to gut the whole team and start from scratch/get Latin players in while the megagroup prefers to keep Yelich,JT,Ozuna,Bour for now. They all want Prado,Chen,Stanton's CONTRACT gone tho. The easiest way to get rid of any of those deals is to package with a Yelich,JT,Ozuna,Bour

Manfred wants the new ownership to have the freedom but supposedly if u are a FA by 2019,Non Tender guy u are free game right now.

The Mike Hill/several others getting 5 yr deals is hilarious tho. He gives out probably $25 million over 5 years total and can't figure out why both the groups won't give him the extra 200 million he wants!! I just hope Jeff knows that even with 5 yr deals in place they can get fired and doesn't think they are keeping their jobs

The best day isn't gonna be when they announce he has sold the best day is gonna be when the new owner fires everyone in that Shitty FO from Jeff's kids to the janitor in the DSL

              • By way it looks like the "Megagroup" is in line for the team. The holdup is Jeff asking for more $,he has told them 1.3Billion gets u the team right now, while they have stuck to 1.1Billion

Feeling is tho as soon as the Jeff Loria Ass Kissing Week(I meant AS Week) is over he will drop price and a price will be agreed on

                The Megagroup is Big Bucks Rothbaum,Tagg Romney,Tom Glavine,Dave Stewart,Marcus Lemonis,likely a few others,and "Low Energy" Jeb! with his $10 million(for some reason?)

Glavine is the only one who supposedly will be involved with the FO. Likely a ownership liaison type who knows about the game. Lemonis is there to do marketing and Romney and Big Bucks Rothbaum are writing checks and making cash

                    • Rothbaum group OUT!! Nothing like 2 rich guys fighting over 200 million

Derek Jeter just lost a big money investor because he doesn't want Jeter running the team with not much skin in game means Jeter likely OUT!!

                      JORGE MAS LONE SURVIVOR!!!!

                      http://nypost.com/2017/07/06/billion...d-for-marlins/

Mas or no sale at this point means Big Sell Off run by Mike Hill Jeff won't come off 1.3Billion and Rothbaum/Mas both offered 1.1

                      • how pathetic.

Though the Romney group dropping out is quite a big piece of news to just devote a single sentence to in the article.

Miami businessman Jorge Mas is said to be “well-positioned” to win the bidding for the Miami Marlins, sources say.

No deal is in place at this point, and no exclusive negotiating window has been granted, but Mas seems to have the advantage thanks to the most solid financial base of the three main bidders. Mas, a well-respected billionaire, and a pillar of the Miami community, would be roundly applauded in South Florida should he be able to finalize the deal to buy the team from Jeffrey Loria.

Mas is believed to have bid between $1.1 billion and $1.2 billion, and while that isn’t all that different from the other bids, he seems to have the advantage since he can fund all of it himself if need be. Estimates have suggested Mas, the chairman of Mas-Tec, is worth in excess of $2 billion.

Mas’ request to have an exclusive negotiating window has not been granted,
leaving open the possibility one of the other two main groups could jump ahead. But Mas has the clear edge at the moment, according to sources.

A deal could be wrapped up in two weeks or so, people close to the situation say. Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred has said for weeks that he’d expect and hope the team would be sold by the end of July.

The New York Post reported that the Tagg Romney-Wayne Rothbaum-Tom Glavine group has dropped out, and while other sources suggest they are still trying for the team, Mas appears to hold the edge at this point. The Romney group is thought to have come up with close to $1 billion, which with financing, could put them close to the money necessary, but they’ve needed many people to get to their figure. Sources suggest the Romney people don’t believe the ballgame is quite over, and things may still be fluid.

The Post also reported that the third main bidder, Yankees legend Derek Jeter, recently lost a significant investor, and while the Post didn’t say Jeter is out, sources close to the situation have said throughout the process that while he has attracted some heavy hitters, he has been short of the money needed to buy the team.

The Mas group several weeks ago offered to let Jeter join their endeavor, but since Mas will be the control person — and not Jeter — the iconic Yankee declined that offer
. Jeter and former Florida governor Jeb Bush, who is now part of the Romney group, are said by sources to have broken up over who would be the control person.

MLB is taking great care to ensure whoever buys the team is on solid financial ground based on a couple recent incidences, including Frank McCourt’s malevolent’s tenure as Dodgers owner. MLB rules permit only 40 percent financing, so with teams worth more than $1 billion now, it’s advantageous to have billionaires involved.

Looks like the Rothbaum group might still be in just trying to play hardball with Jeff to bring the price down to 1.1. Jeff doesn't care who he sells to,highest $ offer wins. Mas upped his offer to 1.15Billion to get a deal done. Manfred/MLB wants Mas. By way Derek Jeter has asked Jeff to hold off on selling till Oct so he can get more investors(F NO)

                          • Sounds like Jeter needs to get over himself and join the Mas group and be content being part owner that can be a known face for the casual fan and have some input in the direction of the front office, but not be in control.

                            • Yeah, seriously guy needs to get over himself. Intangibles don't count in running a FO.

Party, sounds pretty racist to me. He wants Latin players, and not THE BEST players. It will be very tough to attract non-Latino players. We're right back with a mentality to not build the best team. The franchise is just cursed.
