    • Samson on the sale

      http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/sp...166926972.html

Samson added: “I would love to stay here. I serve at the pleasure of the owner. If Bruce Sherman and Derek Jeter would like me to serve, it’s something I would certainly talk about. I have remained completely neutral because I was the one running the deal. I have been in touch with Derek Jeter and Bruce Sherman constantly and I have never discussed my status.”

Michael Hill, the Marlins’ president of baseball operations, is expected to remain with the organization, according to a source and reports by USA Today and FanRags. Hill has three years left on his contract.

The sale must be approved by three-quarters of MLB owners. Though the sale will be discussed during owners meetings in Chicago on Wednesday and Thursday, an ownership vote is not expected for a few weeks.

Samson said Loria will continue to run the team, with business as usual, before the sale closes.

So to summarize Jeff is around till the sale is completed(Oct/Nov) then gone forever. Samson and Hill are around to be "serve" and be Yes Men for 2018 at least and Jorge Mas will have no chance in hell in getting in the group(Thanks to Jeter)

I wonder how much Uncle Daddy's Estate sells the team to Mas for in 2027? The 69-year-old Sherman plans to maintain his Marlins ownership for years to come, then eventually turn the team over to his children, sources said. He has 2 daughters

By way if u are interested in our new "owner" here is some info. O ya that is his 70 million dollar yacht too

      • I don't get the nickname "Uncle Daddy".

Also, perhaps we wait to see how this group operates before passing judgement on them.

So what's this report saying Mas will be involved?

It's completely false according to Samson. In all honesty, that Forbes reporter was consistently wrong about this story.

Sherman wants Mas involved so he has to pay less money(instead of 400 million he only has to pay 100 million) and doesnt have to be the control person however Jeter won't allow it cause he wants all the control. If Mas becomes the control person Jeter loses all control and has to answer to Mas

Jeter already threw a fit so it wont be happening

Not as if Samson is the go-to for accuracy/honesty. But yeah, sounds like Mas isn't involved

                    • Charlie Gasparino of Fox Business is reporting that MLB hasn't received details of the agreement yet - in other words, who is involved in the deal, etc.

He's also reporting Mas is talking about joining, potentially being the control person instead of Sherman.

Though it's reported Jeter is still trying to put together money for the bid, Manfred is saying everything necessary for the bid has been submitted.

According to Barry Jackson, while it is true that they are still calling potential investors, the finances are set. Apparently they are trying to add money to lower the amount of Michael Dell's preferred stock deal.

Also, Sherman met with MLB at the owners meetings today. Jeter was not there because his wife is about to give birth.

                          • Jeff strikes again

Instructional Leagues are starting up for MLB teams. Instructional Leagues are where "prospects" that teams like get extra work in,instructions on what to work on for the winter and even assignments for Winter Ball. It's like a mini Spring Training. Well due to "Irma" not because Jeff wants to pocket more cash

The Marlins, whose training home of Jupiter was hit by the outer bands of the hurricane, said Thursday they are cancelling instructs due to Irma's effects to the area. They will instead have an extended minicamp prior to spring training, according to assistant farm director Brett West.

Gotta save that extra 100K I guess so NO instructional league for the Fish

                            • Im sure the marlins arent just going to ignore their prospects and not tell them what to do for the offseason. A hurricane is a pretty solid excuse. Not exactly a pure cost cutting measure.

                              • From Barry Jackson:

                                http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/sp...172809246.html

One person who has been involved as an investor in the Derek Jeter/Bruce Sherman group that’s buying the Marlins said they mentioned to him, earlier this summer, about the possibility of hiring agent Casey Close, Jeter’s longtime friend and agent.

Close hasn’t said if he would be interested, and Jeter and Sherman have declined to comment to reporters since buying the team, pending MLB approval.

So whether Close would even be interested in a high-ranking business position with the team is unclear. But there have been agents who have left to run the businesses of teams – Jeff Moorad (involved in ownership with the Arizona Diamondbacks previously) and Arn Tellum (Detroit Pistons).

Former agent Bob Myers has been the Golden State Warriors’ GM during this stretch of enormous success. And agent Rob Pelinka was hired as the Lakers’ general manager earlier this year.

Jeter intends to run the team’s baseball side but he and Sherman are looking for someone on the business side to take over for president David Samson, who isn’t expected to be retained.

Though Sherman and Jeter met with Marlins department heads this past week, employees still don’t know which are keeping their jobs.
He also had a note about possibly retaining Ichiro next year, and that we're expected to try to trade Prado in the offseason. I started the offseason thread here: http://soflamarlins.com/showthread.p...cussion-Thread
