And there's the obligatory "when things are going great, sudden bad outing" from Dillon Peters.

CJ Robinson has allowed 1 ER since April 9th.

Soto just doubled his HR total in one game. Garrett improving his season inch by inch.

Luis Castillo has allowed 1 ER or less in 7 of his 10 starts. Now a 2.13 ERA in Jupiter with 42 strikeouts to 7 walks. I've said it before but Castillo commands attention.

Tomas Telis batting .356 with a .915 OPS. If Realmuto was struggling at all this season Telis would've seen time in the majors by now. I'm still not sure what we do with him other than potential trade bait down the line. Platoon probably doesn't work between the two.

How is Telis defensively and does he have any ability to play 1b? Mathis defensive ability is not worth having him in the minors still.

Also Brian Anderson coming back to earth a little bit... Hopefully he can go on another little tear soon.

Our AAA team is absolutely terrible as far as any ability to help the major league team. IDK what their record is this year but man there is absolutely no one besides Telis worth a damn on that team.

Wish we could fast forward a year or 2 with our minor leaguers just to see some talent again, this system is so damn barren right now.

Telis came up as a MIF and actually was voted best defensive C in the PCL. However Mathis is what teams like in a backup-calls a good game, pitchers love him and is defensive. He is 5'8(well according to team) so doubtful a 1B type. No point in having Telis sit on the bench and play 1 game a week, which is why he is in AAA. Plays all the time and if Realmuto gets hurt he can come up. Likely trade bait especially since we just signed Corporan

Long as Anderson looks better than LY(which he has) the season is a win for him. No other 3B in the system

Our AAA sucks because we promote guys to the ML and don't spend cash. We are happy getting depth and hoping they can be helpful

This system will never be "talented". Jeff doesn't spend cash to get talent and if we have any it will probably be used as trade bait to help the ML team.

Also don't forget at the End of June we also get our "Free Pick" and IFA Slots to use as trade bait. If we play our cards right,we should be able to use them for an RP arm or extra bat. Minnesota/Milwaukee/Atlanta/SD/Cincy all are looking for both.

I understand you want to get Telis everyday ab's but he isn't exactly a prospect... how long do we wait to continue to have his bat wasted in the minors. Realmuto is our long term starter at C so its not like we are waiting for the everyday catcher position to open up, do we use Telis as trade bait only or use his bat as much as possible to help the big league team anytime soon? Im just very against someone as bad as Mathis is at hitting being given a major league roster spot when he only starts once a week and his great defense is offset by his complete lack of a threat at the plate.

I'd be more interested in a guy who can be an impact bat off the bench than a guy who can catch 9 innings well once a week. An impact bat off the bench every game to me is more valuable than a good defensive catcher who can't hit worth shit, especially considering Telis isn't a train wreck defensively. Granted, I also wouldn't be a complete pussy like most managers nowadays and never pinch hit using my backup catcher in the off chance my starting catcher gets hurt later in the game.

imo, you replace Johnson with him. Give him starts against LHP and back up Realmuto. That'll give him 2-3 starts a week

Think more people would be mad if about 28 other teams didn't pretty much do the same exact thing, Everyone has the main C and a backup who might play once a week. The backup is usually a guy who is about defense and whatever bat they get is just a plus. Now if we were in the AL I could see Telis up but the thought process is leave him in AAA/get him AB's and if needed we can call him up OR July 30 he can be trade bait(Signed Corporan who is just like Mathis so)

I don't really care personally if every other team does it, it's fucking stupid. Giving a roster spot to a guy just because he can catch 9 innings a week solidly while being a complete 0 at the plate is stupid, especially when you have a capable replacement who can add something to your nonexistent bench. Mathis does not deserve a roster spot and a few million a year for 9 innings a week. We need bats off the bench, and we are wasting a spot 6 days a week with someone who will not play when REalmuto starts and can't be worth a damn as a pinch hitter. Its a completely inefficient use of our resources to spend a few million on mathis when Telis is in the minors and our bench is terrible, especially for a team 28th in payroll.

                            - - - - - - - - - -

I would honestly have less of a problem if we had Mathis as our full time starter for a few million and just admitted we expect nothing from him offensively, and loved what he brought defensively. But for one start a week at the 28th largest payroll in baseball, he is a completely inefficient use of our money.

Also, there is trading Realmuto for a pitcher. I do imagine we could get a decent one for him. While his "normal" catching defensive is solidly average, he's the worst pitch framer in baseball after being 4th worst last year. Has already cost us 8 runs from there. That would drop his fWAR to -0.1.

Telis isn't any better (in fact, he might be worse), but Realmuto would at least get us a legit pitcher.

Framing is something the Marlins completely ignore, and they've been in the bottom of the league just about every year since 2008 (which is as far as it goes back). When you look at the guys they've brought in (Buck, Brantly, Salty, Telis), add in Realmuto, it's obviously something they don't care about at all.

                              - - - - - - - - - -

Which is then one of those frustrating things when you're like "they can take advantage of another team who'd ignore that aspect of the game" and realize that they are that team so yeah, good luck
