Cosart and Ozuna aren't doing to well at AAA.

Rodon's college usage worried me (and still does), I'm not gonna go revisionist on that. But yeah, this certainly isn't looking good at all.

I mean, its obviously way too early to give up on Kolek. He has the kind of stuff potential where he could suck for 2 years and then something clicks and he takes off. All we've really learned so far is he's got a long road ahead of him. It's gonna be a while before we really know much more than that.

        Still, fuck him.

Especially with how bad we need a #2 or #3 starter. Rodon would definitely be a decent #3 starter for us in 2016. Drafting him would've saved us a ton of money with not having to spend for a top tier pitching free agent.
Let me just say I would have taken Rodon and if they wanted to save cash Aaron Nola. BUT the talk at the draft last year was that between the price and the fact some in the FO saw him more as a RP they decided to take Kolek.

Their board should have been Rodon/Nola/Kolek instead it was Kolek/Aiken/Rodon. The reason I am talking about Nola is while he still might be another year away,he would have cost even less than Kolek and could have been in the rotation to start 2016.

The final 5 tho was Kolek,Aiken,Rodon,Nola and Alex Jacksom. We went with Kolek(who is still learning how to pitch and I think still might even be on a pitch count-Longest outing has been 5 innings)

So what if in a worse case scenario he did suck and became a bullpen arm? Carlos had a 70 fastball, a 80 slider and a changeup that was very undervalued and could become a solid third pitch. What he would have brought to the organization would have been huge. He is just like Jose, a hard-nose pitcher on the mound. He's not as theatrical as Jose is in the dugout, but Carlos on the mound is intimidating and would have done wonders for this rotation. I don't understand that if they were thinking around the draft that they legitimately wanted to compete in 2015/16, why they drafted a high school guy instead of someone that could be helping them effectively a year from now. The only thing concerning about Carlos right now is his walk rate, but I don't believe it's that much of an issue, just something I hope he brings down with experience.

Well Prado not playing tonight might be a bad sign. Went from him possibly being activated Sunday to Frisaro saying him being activated Friday in Philly is up in the air.

IIRC, low strikeout and low power is shown to have a negative correlation to major league success.

But for a 18 year old in his first 7 games of professional ball, just 3% strike out rate is pretty cool.

Last week's minor league transactions, c/o Baseball America:

-P Breck Kline was signed as a NDFA out of Southern Mississippi. He had one year of eligibility left in college. Kline was listed as an INF/OF on the Golden Eagles roster, but starts his pro career as a pitcher with GCL.
-The Marlins also acquired P Enderson Franco from the Rays for international bonus slot two ($454,400). Franco has been assigned to Greensboro. He made 13 starts for Bowling Green this year, throwing 71.2 innings, giving up 82 hits, only 8 walks and 47 strikeouts.

Three players were released from the organization:

-The first was P Tyler Kane. He was a 38th round pick in 2013. Kane had a 1-3 record with a 7.36 ERA in Greensboro this year. 22 innings, 21 hits, 19 walks, 19 Ks.
-P Pat Misch was also let go. The veteran Misch was in his first year with the Marlins. He had a 5-7 record with a 3.25 ERA in AAA.
-Finally, 3B Scott Sizemore was released. He too was in AAA New Orleans. He hit .223 in 193 ABs with the Zephyrs, with two homers and 18 RBIs. Given the veteran statuses of Misch and Sizemore, I wonder if they had opt-out clauses in their contract that one or both exercised.

I hope Sizemore was let go to give Cox playing time in New Orleans.
